Q.1 Read the following passage and answers the questions that
follow:
1. Do you know how many feathers does a bird have? The bigger a
bird is, the more feathers it has on its body. A humming bird has 900,
while a swan has 25,000 or even more. Feathers come in all shapes,
sizes and colours.
2. The soft, silky and velvety feathers keep the bird warm. The big and strong feathers give
it the strength to fly. Birds get a set of new feathers almost every year. As the new ones
grow, the old ones slowly fall.
3. The feathers are used by human beings in various ways. They are used in pillows and
caps. Before the invention of pens, people wrote with large feathers with pointed ends
called quills. In Panama in Central America, people use bright feathers for headgears. The
zoo and bird sanctuaries all over the world collect feathers. They send them to Panama
because there is no point in hunting birds for feathers.

Activity: - Invisible Ink with Lemon Juice
Juice.
Making invisible ink is a lot of fun; you can pretend you are a secret agent as you keep all
your secret codes and messages hidden from others. All you need is some basic household
objects and the hidden power of lemon juice.
What you’ll need:
Half a lemon
Water
Spoon
Bowl
Cotton bud
White paper
Lamp or a light bulb
Instructions:
1. Squeeze some lemon juice into the bowl and add a few drops of water.
2. Mix the water and lemon juice with the spoon.
3. Dip the cotton bud into the mixture and write a message onto the white paper.
4. Wait for the juice to dry so it becomes completely invisible.
5. When you are ready to read your secret message or show it to someone else, heat the
paper by holding it close to a light bulb or a torch.

AMAZING BUTTERFLY
Draw two tear drops on a piece of thick cardboard. Make one a little smaller than the
other. Then cut out the shapes.
Lay the big tear drop on a piece of patterned paper. Draw around it again, to make two
shapes.
Lay the small tear drop on a different piece of paper and draw it twice. Then, cut all four
teardrop shapes , dip a thin paint brush in some thick paint, then brush stripes across
the body. Paint two dots for eyes, and then add long feelers.
Cut out two circles from coloured paper and glue them onto the ends of feelers. Then
glue the sequins on top of each circle.
Cut two more circles and glue them onto the wings. Draw stars on shiny paper and cut
them out. Glue the stars onto the wings too.
