SDSU Summer 2015 Federal Work Study Program
Eligibility Requirements and Application Procedures
The summer Federal Work Study (FWS) program period is from June 1, 2015, to August 31, 2015. You are not required to
attend SDSU Summer Session to participate in the summer FWS program.
Eligibility Requirements for Summer Employment
You must—
• Be an SDSU student either continuing (enrolled for the spring 2015 semester) or newly admitted (planning to enroll for the fall
2015 semester).
• Have filed the 2015-16 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have a Federal Work Study award for the
2015-16 academic year from the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS).
• Maintainsatisfactoryacademicprogressattheendofthespring2015semesterasdefinedbytheOFAS.Ifyouarenotmaking
satisfactory academic progress, the OFAS will post a message on your AidLink account and notify you by e-mail. You will not be
eligible for summer Federal Work Study.
Procedures for Summer Federal Work Study
If you meet the eligibility requirements above, then—
1. Complete Section A (on page 2).
2. Your FWS employer (both Supervisor and Division Coordinator) must complete Sections B, C and F.
3. Once submitted to the OFAS, we will notify your Division Coordinator regarding your eligibility.
Notification of Summer Federal Work Study Eligibility
SummerFWSeligibilitywillbedeterminedinMay.Your Summer FWS application must be approved by the OFAS before
you can begin work. Your supervisor will be notified when you can begin working.
Summer FWS Earnings May Affect Your 2015-16 Financial Aid Award
Part of your summer earnings may be considered a resource in determining your 2015-16 academic year
financial aid award. The amount to be considered a fall resource will be indicated on your AidLink record
in "Your Messages" and as a resource in "Your Award Summary." If you have questions concerning the
resource amount and how it affects your eligibility, please contact the OFAS.
Required Documentation
Federal law requires documentation to prove your eligibility to work as follows—
• An original Social Security card (no photocopies accepted) or proof of application for a Social Security number.
• Photo identification — an SDSU Red ID card plus either a Driver’s License or U.S. Passport.
• Permanent Resident Alien must present a Permanent Resident card.
Employment Procedure for All New SDSU Student Employees
1. YouandthehiringdepartmentcompleteA,B,C,andFoftheattachedStudentEmploymentAuthorizationforSummer2015.
Section F — Signatures
→→Authorizing department signature is always required.
→→Division Coordinator signature is required for Federal Work Study positions.
2.Present appropriate documentation to the Center for Human Resources (CHR), Extended Studies Center, Room 406 (see
“Required Documentation” above). CHR initials Section C of the form to verify your eligibility to work.
3. CHR returns the original completed form to you which you take to the OFAS, SSW 3605. OFAS keeps a copy and forwards the
original to CHR if you are eligible for summer work study employment.
4. Do not begin working until OFAS notifies the Division Coordinator that you are eligible.
5. If you are not eligible for summer work study, the OFAS places a message on your AidLink account and sends you an e-mail.
Paychecks
Paychecks are distributed in each department. See your Department Coordinator for information on pay days and disbursement
procedures.
