CELEBRATE AMERICA!
Oceana, West Virginia has a well-known tradition of celebrating the nation’s birthday every July
and this year promises to be another great event as gospel music’s legendary Kingsmen Quartet
comes to town for the Heritage Festival in Gillian Park on Sunday, July 5 at 6:30 p.m. They will
be joined by exciting new group The Jones’s from Wheelersburg, Ohio.
For more than a half a century, no group has secured such a far reaching legacy like that of
The Kingsmen Quartet. Since 1956, this group has risen from humble beginnings in the mountains
of western North Carolina to one of the most beloved and innovative groups in Christian music.
Countless renowned artists have been a part of this great lineage; such
as Eldridge Fox, “Big” Jim Hamill, Ray Dean Reese, Squire Parsons, Johnny
Parrack, Anthony Burger, Ernie Phillips, Gary Sheppard, and a host of
The Kingsmen Quartet
others. The momentum has not stopped as this group continues to help
define the Southern Gospel genre for a whole new generation of music lovers, perhaps more so than any
other group.
“The Jones’s” are a family group comprised of Joy Jones and her two sons, Derec (23), and Ryan (18).
Their family harmony is like no other! At age four Joy began singing with her evangelistic family, the Bales
Family. They traveled the United States, Canada, Haiti, Jamaica, and Mexico from her youth into young
adulthood. In 2013, Joy and the boys decided to “join forces” and form the family trio, “The Jones’s”.
The Jones
Their Debut CD “JONES” was released in 2014. Their first single release from that CD (Come On, Come
On) broke into the Singing News Top 80 at number 58! They also performed on the National Quartet Convention Showcase and on
Main Stage at 2014 NQC!
The Heritage Festival is presented by the Oceana Area Chamber of Commerce and all activities are free. The event gets
underway with a picnic in the park just before the concert at 6:30 then the evening caps off with a gigantic fireworks display. Gillian
Park is located our Route 10 in Oceana and offers covered seating for the concert. For more information please call 304-732-9371.

There Was a Farm
There was a farm, where lived farmer John with his wife Molly. They raised pigs, cows and many animals in their
farm. Also there lived a little mouse. One day the mouse looked through a small crack in the wall and accidentally
saw how the farmer was opening a package. The mouse was curious what food may it contain and discovered
that it was a mousetrap. The mouse was determined to run around the
farmyard and warn all the animals regarding the danger.
First of all he met the chicken. “There is a mousetrap in the
house!” the mouse declared with despair. But the chicken answered
with indifference: “It does not concern me, as this is a danger for you,
but not for me. It cannot bother me“. Then the mouse raced to the pig
and the cow and told them about the mousetrap. But the pig and the
cow were not impressed. They said that for them there is no reason to
worry about this and promised to pray about it. Sad and depressed, the
little mouse returned to the house.
In the night the farmer‘s wife Molly heard a sound of a mousetrap.
She hurried to see what was in it, but due to the darkness she did not
see that it was a poisonous snake, whose tail was caught by the trap.
Suddenly the snake bit Molly. The farmer rushed with her to the hospital. Later, when they returned home, Molly
still had a fever. John remembered that it is good to treat a fever with chicken soup, so he went to his farmyard to
bring the main ingredient, the chicken. Whereas Molly‘s sickness continued and many friends came to visit her, the
farmer butchered the pig so he could feed all the visitors. Unfortunately, as time went by Molly became weaker and
weaker and one day she died. Many neighbors, relatives and friends arrived for the funeral. John had to slaughter
the cow to feed all of them.
The mouse had been watching all that was happening with great sorrow. Remember, when we learn that
someone is facing difficulties or danger, all of us can be at risk. It is better to help and encourage one another and
not leave anyone alone with their problems.

A Sure Bet
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE
A strong young man at the construction site was bragging that
he could outdo anyone in a feat of strength. He made a special case of
making fun of Morris, one of the older workmen. After several minutes,
Morris had enough. “Why don’t you put your money where your mouth
is?” he said. “I will bet a week’s wages that I can haul something in a
wheelbarrow over to that outbuilding that you won’t be able to wheel
back.”
“You’re on, old man,” the braggart replied. “It’s a bet! Let’s see
what you got.” Morris reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the
handles. Then, nodding to the young man, he said, “All right. Get in.”
Get Off That Bridge
A party of Methodist ministers was attending an Annual Conference
at a private countryside resort. Several of them set off to explore the area
and presently they came upon an old bridge that crossed a quiet pond.
Unfortunately, they didn’t notice a sign declaring the bridge to be
unsafe. As they crossed it, the caretaker came running after them. “Hey!
You there! Get off that bridge!” he protested.
“It’s all right,” declared one of the ministers, “we are in this resort
with permission. We’re Methodists from the Conference.” “I’m not
worried about THAT,” replied the caretaker. “But if you don’t get off that
bridge, you’ll all be BAPTISTS!”
