Members of the Network include Anthony Kittel, Managing Director of Redarc, Jeremy Hawkes, Managing Director of Bowhill Engineering and Shane Kelly, Managing Director of Kelly Engineering. These companies were recognized in 2014 as Telstra Australian Business of the Year, Telstra South Australian Regional Business of Year and South Australian Exporter of the Year respectively. The ILF has rapidly gained recognition amongst business leaders since it was established five years ago. The program is unique, the application process is simple but rigorous, the scholars are diverse high achievers from a wide range of wealth creating industries such as food, cheese and wine making, bio-sciences, manufactured engineering, software development, electronics, shipbuilding, aeronautical engineering, and mining. The ILF believes that the best way to build a strong South Australian economy is to have great local business leaders. The ILF provides financial support for the development of current and potential business leaders. Applicants must work in businesses that are located in South Australia, employ South Australians but could be located interstate or overseas. The aim of the grant is to support individuals whose employment history or work within the community demonstrates their leadership potential. The ILF is particularly interested in those who wish to share the benefit of their talents, knowledge and achievements within their industry and the wider community. In 2014 thirty three scholars shared in grants worth a record $392,000. It is likely that the 2015 grant pool will approach the 2014 record. Andrew Downs, Managing Director of Sage Automation, attended module 1 of the Harvard Business School Owner President Manager Program in May 2014, supported by an ILF grant. He explained that the ILF grant had motivated him to progress his enrolment earlier than otherwise might have occurred. He is also full of praise for the ILF Scholars Network which magnifies the benefit of the study program. “The ILF grant has given me the once in a lifetime opportunity to take part in the Harvard Business School Owner President Management (OPM) Program, the world’s leading business leadership education. “The Harvard Business School, it’s Professors and the Alumni of the OPM program are of the highest calibre, truly world class. The experience of learning from and with this inspirational group has been life changing and a big step towards honing my leadership skills to take SAGE Automation on its next journey of growth. The 2015 call for applications closes on Friday, May 29 2015.
