2015 High School Academic Intervention Program
Tuesday, June 30, 2015 to Tuesday, August 11, 2015
Dear Parent or Guardian,
This summer, we will be offering two courses for High School English Language
Learners. We hope that you will encourage your children to take advantage of this
excellent opportunity to work with ESL teachers in one of the following courses:
ESL Intermediate/Advanced 9/10: This course is designed for ESL 2 & ESL 3 (TESL)
students entering grades 9 & 10. The course will focus on the development of reading,
writing, listening and speaking skills.
English Regents Preparation for ESL students 11/12: This course will prepare
students for the New York State English Regents and is open for students in grades 11 &
12 only. The course will also develop vocabulary needed for the SAT. (Regents exams
will be administered on August 12 and 13. ESL students who have previously taken the exam
can choose to retake an exam during the August session. If you have any questions regarding
your decision, please contact your guidance counselor.)
Together with your child’s ESL teacher, we recommend that he or she participate in this
program. Classes will be held at South Middle School, and will begin on Tuesday,
June 30 and end on Tuesday, August 11. Class hours will be from 8:15 until 11:30 am,
Monday through Friday. School will be closed on Friday, July 3 in observation of
Independence Day. Bus transportation will be provided. Please complete the attached
application and return it via mail to the address indicated.
