The core of the system, Adaptive Cruise Control (at all
speeds), goes beyond the basic accelerator management

What we know:
A rear-end collision is not
the best way to meet people.
With the goal of automatically eliminating the most common
(and embarrassing) type of accident – the low-speed
(up to 50 km/h) rear-end collision – Volvo created City
Safety. This remarkable technology – standard with the
Volvo XC60 – uses a closing-velocity laser sensor that
tracks the car immediately ahead of you and constantly
calculates how much braking force is needed to come to a
full stop before meeting them unintentionally. If the system
senses an imminent exchange of personal information and
insurance forms, it will automatically brake. Clearly, this
technology can save you from more than embarrassment.
It can help reduce or avoid the impact of a collision.
