Assistant Curator Green Howards Museum Job Description JOB TITLE LOCATION SALARY RESPONSIBLE TO HOURS OF WORK ANNUAL LEAVE JOB PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES Assistant Curator Green Howards Museum, Trinity Church Square, Richmond, North Yorkshire, DL10 4QN £16,644 per annum Director/Curator 28 hours per week (four days – to include one Saturday per month) 20 days plus bank holidays. The purpose of this post is to assist in managing all aspects of the museum business from the day to day operational needs of the organisation, to collections management, research, exhibitions, audience development and education activities. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an individual who is at the start of their museum career or who is currently studying part time for a Museum Studies post graduate qualification. The post holder will be expected to contribute to all aspects of the running of this busy military museum and consequently the successful candidate will gain valuable experience across a broad spectrum of museum activity. Closing Date: 4th June at 9am Interviews: 9th June Applications may be sent by post or email to Lynda Powell Director/Curator, 01748 826561 [email protected] Main Duties and Responsibilities Operations Conduct daily security checks of museum and maintain museum displays to the highest standards Provide cover, including lunch times, for front of house staff Conduct guided tours of the museum for group visits as and when required Assist in out of hours activities including our monthly evening lectures The post holder is the primary key holder for the museum. To fulfill this requirement you must live within 20 minutes drive time of the museum. Collections Management Responsible for processing all new acquisitions to the museum to SPECTRUM standards Undertake cataloguing projects Responsible for environmental monitoring of the collection Assist in the maintenance of the stores ensuring objects are stored appropriately and securely Assist the Director/Curator to ensure that the museum continues to meets the requirements of the museum accreditation standard. Research Promote the family history research service with the aim of increasing income Be responsible for the family history enquiry service; answering enquires from visitors in person, by phone and by written request Undertake research to assist in the development of new exhibitions, education and outreach activities. Volunteers Recruit, train and manage volunteer workforce. Audience Development/Education Activities Assist the Community Liaison Officer and Education Manager to deliver workshops and deliver workshops in their absence. Projects Assist in the delivery of special projects including special exhibitions and grant aided projects. PR/Publicity Assist the Communications Officer by providing information for the website, social media and to support all publicity activities. General Responsibilities To be responsible for his own/her own development and actively encourage the personal development of all volunteers To observe the Museum policies on health and safety legislation and follow instructions and procedures so as to comply with relevant statutory requirements To undertake other tasks appropriate to the post and its level of responsibility as required from time to time by the Trustees.
