Rev. Myron Wilkins Bio - Greensboro Urban Ministry

About the Rev. Myron W. Wilkins
The Rev. Myron W. Wilkins is a passionate advocate for the poor and underserved. Formed by his faith,
social work training and personal life journey through urban poverty, Wilkins brings a strong vision to
Greensboro Urban Ministry.
He has served in numerous pastoral and nonprofit leadership roles and has had the opportunity to work
and live in several regions of the United States, opportunities that have built a broad knowledge of the
obstacles to prosperity many face across the
country and effective strategies to create hope
and help for people in need.
Wilkins was born in Philadelphia. He earned a
bachelor’s degree in social work from West
Chester University and a master’s degree in
social work from Temple University. His
graduate studies were funded by a grant from
the Office of Housing and Urban Development.
During these years, Wilkins served as a housing
advocate for individuals and families facing
displacement and as a county child protective
services social worker.
As an ordained pastor, Wilkins has traveled and
spoken extensively. He currently serves as
senior pastor of Hixson First Baptist Church, a 600-member congregation in Chattanooga. He has served
at this church since 2009. He is an ordained minister in the North American Baptist Conference and
studied at Philadelphia College of Bible, now Cairn University.
Wilkins served as executive director from 2003-2009 of Bethel Bible Village Children’s Home, a
residential home for children, youth and families in Chattanooga. Under his leadership, the organization
regained financial stability and expanded services to include a transitional/rehousing program for single
mothers, families and youth aging out of the foster care system.
From 1994-2003, Wilkins was minister and director of ministries for Missions Door, based in Denver. He
has been a Board member with Missions Door since 2011.
Wilkins shares his life and ministry with his wife of 27 years, Anna. They have three sons, ages 15, 22 and
25.
