This is an exclusive travel program presented by InterTrav Corporation
Day by Day Itinerary
Tues., Feb. 2 – HARTFORD/KAANAPALI BEACH
We depart Hartford this morning by motor coach to
Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport for our transpacific
flight traveling en-route to Kahului, Maui. We are greeted by
the warm trade winds and a traditional Hawaiian “lei” and
“aloha”! A short drive remains to our resort on fabulous
Kaanapali Beach. This evening dinner is included at our
hotel. (D)
Wed., Feb. 3 – KANAAPALI BEACH
Today is at leisure to relax on beautiful Kaanapali Beach
after our day of travel. Perhaps a visit to the old whaling port
of Lahaina. Much of Lahaina’s past remains today from the
old wooden buildings that line Front Street to its historical
landmarks. An optional excursion will be offered to Haleakala National Park, home to the volcano known to the islanders as the “House of the Sun”, and its vast Haleakala
Crater. (B)
Thurs., Feb 4 – KANAAPALI BEACH (Iao Valley)
Maui’s rich cultural history and natural beauty come alive on
our adventure to the Iao Valley State Park and Lahaina
Town, where you will explore everything from lava
formations to the island’s vibrant art scene. At Iao Valley
State Park, which served as a burial ground for Hawaiian
royalty, we see where King Kamehameha defeated Maui’s
army to unite the Hawaiian Islands. The lush park is also
home to the famous Iao Needle, a heavily eroded peak that
rises sharply 2,500 feet above sea level to form a dramatic
centerpiece in the valley. Our last stop is in Lahaina, a 19thcentury whaling village that also served as the first capitol of
the Kingdom of Hawaii. This afternoon we arrive back at our
resort on Kaanapali Beach. (B)
Fri., Feb. 5 – KANAAPALI BEACH/HILO/KONA
This morning we will depart the Island of Maui on the
short flight to Hilo located on the east coast of the “Big
Island” of Hawaii. On arrival in Hilo we visit Rainbow
falls, and make a visit to the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut
Farm. We visit the Akatsuka Orchid Nursery, before
arriving at the impressive lava flows at Volcano National
Park where we’ll see a wide array of unique volcanic
formations, forests of giant tree ferns and steaming craters.
Next we’ll visit Punaluu Beach, famous for its black sand,
before we in Kona, where we’ll find the real Polynesian
Hawaii and see firsthand that the old culture still thrives.
(B)
Sat., Feb. 6 – KONA
Today is free in Kona, perhaps to enjoy a visit to the fishing
village of Kailua and the summer palace of Hawaiian royalty
down the street, or simply relax with an afternoon aboard one
of the glass bottom boats. For the more adventurous, you
may prefer an afternoon of snorkeling or to try your luck at
deep sea fishing for blue marlin, the Kona Coast is famous
for it! This evening we enjoy a traditional Hawaiian Luau.
(B,D)
Sun., Feb. 7 – KONA/KAPAA (Fern Grotto)
We say “a hui hou” to Kona as we prepare for a short interisland flight to the “Garden Isle” of Kauai. On arrival in
Lihue we’ll travel to the religious seat of the ancient Kauai
Chieftains for a scenic jungle river cruise along the Wailua
River. Our cruise will take us up-river through the dense
tropical foliage and past settings reminiscent of centuries
gone by before arriving at the Fern Grotto, a mystical
fern-cloaked cave of unforgettable beauty. Our day will
come to an end in Kapaa and our resort on Kauai’s Coconut
Beach. (B,D)
Mon., Feb. 8 – KAPAA
It is no coincidence that the oldest of the major Hawaiian
islands is also the most beautiful. With its sandy beaches and
large coral reefs, Kauai is Hawaii’s most irresistible
destination. Today is free to roam the wooden boardwalks of
Kapaa, reminiscent of a late 19th century plantation village, or
relax on the fringe of sand at the ocean’s edge. An optional
excursion will be offered to Waimea Canyon, know as "The
Grand Canyon of the Pacific." (B)
Tues., Feb 9 – KAPAA/HONOLULU (City Tour)
This morning we will depart the Island of Kauai on the flight
to Oahu and the city of Honolulu, called “The Gathering
Place”, Oahu is alive with activity. This afternoon, we’ll
enjoy an introductory tour of Honolulu that will take us into
the towering downtown district. We will see Iolani Palace,
the only royal palace on American soil, Kawaiahao Church,
the impressive King Kamehameha Statue, Honolulu City
Hall, the Hawaiian State Capitol, the Governor’s Mansion
and the quaint homes of the missionaries. Then we’re headed
to Punchbowl Crater to experience the serenity of the
Punchbowl National Cemetery featuring the “Courts of the
Missing”, the chapel, and the finely-detailed mosaic maps of
the Pacific theaters of action in World War II and Korea.
(B,D)
Wed., Feb 10 – HONOLULU (Pearl Harbor)
Today we will relive a “moment in history” when we visit
Pearl Harbor’s Arizona Memorial and Visitors Center. We’ll
stop at the Visitors Center to watch a short film depicting the
events that unfolded on December 7, 1941. Then we’ll board
a navy launch for the short journey to the U.S.S. Arizona
where we’ll disembark for an up close, unforgettable
experience. Next, we’ll travel across the Ford Island Bridge
to tour the celebrated USS Missouri Battleship where on
September 2, 1945 General MacArthur accepted the Japanese
surrender that ended World War II. The afternoon is at
leisure to explore Honolulu. Our hotel is situated in the
heart of fantastic shopping and just steps away from
famous Waikiki Beach. (B)
The Vacation Price Includes:
Thurs., Feb. 11 – HONOLULU/EN ROUTE
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and
our last day in the Hawaiian Islands, we will visit the
Dole Plantation. Originally operated as a fruit stand
beginning in 1950, Dole Plantation opened to the pubic
as Hawaii’s “Pineapple Experience” in 1989. We’ll
enjoy a two-mile 20 minute fully narrated train ride
through a real life working plantation to learn about the
pineapple, Hawaii’s most famous fruit crop and hear
about James Dole, the man who built a world-famous
agriculture empire from 60 acres of Wahiawa earth.
Following our visit we transfer to Honolulu Airport for
our flight to Chicago. (B)
