2015 AWARDS FESTIVAL FOR PIANO AND VOICE
TOTAL OF $5,000.00 IN PRIZES AWARDED
The Gulf Coast Steinway Society is a non-profit organization formed by Steinway Artist
Dr. Kadisha Onalbayeva and other individuals united in their devotion to strive to promote fine
music through education and piano performance along the Gulf Coast of Alabama, Mississippi
and Florida. The Gulf Coast Steinway Society Awards Festival will take place at The University
of Mobile, 5735 College Parkway, Mobile, Alabama on September 12th. Its purpose is to award
talented young piano and voice students and give them an opportunity to perform and work with
master teachers.
FORMAT OF THE FESTIVAL
Participants will perform two pieces of contrasting styles. Award winners will be selected on the
basis of their performance. The students’ teachers are encouraged to attend.
It will be open to the public. A master class will be provided the afternoon prior to the festival.
Space is limited, reservation is required.
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must be residents of the state of Florida, Alabama and Mississippi or be studying with
a teacher who is a resident of these states. The teacher must be a Steinway Society Member. The
fee is $35 to join the society.
Festival participants will be Middle School, High School and College levels.
Junior Level - Grades 6-8
Senior Level - Grades 9-12 (age limit 18)
College Level (Undergraduate students only in two categories: lower classman and upper
classman)
AWARDS
Three Gulf Coast Steinway Society Awards will be given for each category.
Honorable Mentions will be given at the discretion of the judges.
REPERTOIRE
Students will perform TWO contrasting styles:
Piano: Junior/ Senior Level (time limit 8-10 minutes)
1. Baroque, Classical or Romantic repertoire
2. One selection from Contemporary music.
Piano: College Level (time limit 10-15 minutes) (both lower classman & upper classman)
1. Baroque or Classical repertoire
2. Romantic or Contemporary repertoire
Voice: Senior Level (time limit 8 minutes)
1. One art song in English.
2. One selection from the Musical Theater repertoire.
Voice: College Level (time limit 10-12 minutes) (both lower classman & upper
classman)
1. One art song in English.
2. One art song in a foreign language.
All works must be memorized. Movements from larger works are acceptable.
You must provide a copy of your score.
APPLICATION
Applications must be postmarked by Wednesday, August 15, 2015. We will
attempt to accommodate all applicants. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE
ACCEPTED.
APPLICATION FEE
There is an application/membership fee of $35.00. This is in addition to the
required teacher membership. Application package must include:
