To: Port Processors & Subaru Port Operations ’14 XV Crosstrek Hybrid Launch As some of you may be aware, the new Subaru 2014 XV Crosstrek Hybrid vehicle has many new components associated with the operation of the electric motor located inside the transmission assembly. These include additional batteries, electrical cables, and an under hood Integrated Starter Generator, or ISG. An operating characteristic of the Hybrid system is that the ISG can and will start and stop the mechanical engine under certain operating parameters on its own with little or no warning. It is very important for anyone who drives or performs any under hood service work to be educated and aware of these operating characteristics. Drivers need to be aware of how to determine what mode the car is in, and especially whether it’s ON or OFF when exiting and walking away from the car. It’s even more important for anyone who performs under hood work to know when it’s safe to put their hands in the area of the rotating components including the belts and pulleys. The vehicle itself does have several warning and caution labels located throughout to remind users of sensitive or high voltage areas. We have assembled these cautions in a laminated spiral bound booklet that you can use in educating your associates. In addition, we are making available to you five (5) Subaru of America Technical Training Modules that introduce the vehicle characteristics and highlight areas of caution and special handling. Your facing onsite SOA AQA Manager will be the source of this information and will take the lead in introducing this information to you and discussing the best way to pass it along to your associates. We strongly recommend everyone who will be in contact with Hybrid units review the material and take the completion test indicating their understanding of the material. SOA AQA personnel will contact SNE/SDC Port Operations Managers directly and pass along training material and answer questions. Although this is Subaru’s’ initial experience with a Hybrid vehicle, expansion to additional models is a real consideration as this technology is expanding. We appreciate your interest, assistance, and compliance in this program. Advanced Quality Assurance / Technical Service Subaru of America, Inc.
