PRIOR APPROVAL is required for a student to earn Gunn High School credit for all offcampus courses including college, vocational and summer educational programs.
Credit will be granted only for courses taken in an accredited school. Permission will
not be granted if the course is a designated graduation requirement such as U.S. History
or Economics except in extenuating circumstances (PAUSD Secondary Records
Handbook, Rev. 3/03).

TAKING OFF CAMPUS COURSES FOR CREDIT 1. To take courses, for credit, outside of Gunn High School, first see your Guidance Counselor (or the Assistant Principal of Guidance), to see if the course request is appropriate. NOT ALL COURSES CAN BE APPROVED FOR HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT!! 2. If you take a World Language class outside of Gunn, you will not be permitted to take another class at Gunn in that same language. The exception to this policy is for course repeats, which are allowed if the original grade was a D or an F. 3. If your Guidance Counselor/Assistant Principal of Guidance says that the course is acceptable, complete the student portion of the “Gunn High School Student Permission Form To Take Off-­‐‑Campus Courses For High School Credit.” Have your parents complete the parent portion. Then get approval signatures from your Guidance Counselor, the Assistant Principal of Guidance, and the Instructional Supervisor of the subject area when required. 4. After all signatures are obtained, give the form to the Gunn Registrar. This must be done BEFORE you enroll in the course. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT COMPLETE THIS FORM AND TURN IT IN TO THE REGISTRAR WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OBTAIN HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT RETROACTIVELY. 5. After you complete the course, obtain an official, sealed transcript from the institution where you took the course. Submit it to the Gunn Registrar. The Registrar will then enter the course onto your Gunn transcript. REMEMBER: NO PERMISSION FORM = NO CREDIT!!
