Halifax Golf Club A BIG SCRATCH TEAM THANK YOU TO OUR GENEROUS SPONSORS On behalf of all the scratch team players and joint captains Jamie Smith and Darren Davison we would like to thank all of our generous sponsors. Halifax golf club members, Peter Skinner, Geoff Horrocks-Taylor, Steve Jackson, George Dobby and John Sutcliffe have all contributed to enable us to acquire new shirts and wind tops through the club professional Nick Krzywicki. Without the support and contributions of the mentioned members along with members such as Steve Wild and Graham Sellers who have donated in the past, the Scratch team would not look as smart as they do this year. The scratch team have a very good squad this year and the fight for places in the team is going to be widely contested over the next coming weeks. Scratch Team Battle for Places The battle for places in the Halifax Scratch team has just got a bit harder with new members joining. Mark Birkett playing of (0) has rejoined from Todmordon Golf Club where he has played for the 2014 season and was part of a 3 man team at Todmordon that won the Yorkshire 7th Division Team Championships and also winning best gross for the morning 18 holes. Also joining Halifax this year is Chris Mear from Meltham Golf Club who was the Halifax & Huddersfield Union Team Manager for many years. Chris playing of (2) has successfully defended the Halifax & Huddersfield Senior’s Championship last year at Elland after winning it for the first time in 2013 at Bradley Park. Along with Jamie Smith (+1) and Clive Crawshaw (1) the first few places could be tied up. The last couple of places will be up for grabs with new member last year Jamie Lavin (4) Darren Davison (3) Steve Smith (4) Andy Woodhead (4) and Simon Wilson (4). Another Ex member of Halifax Golf Club SteMark Birkett Chris Mear ven Sweeney (4) has re joined from Bradley Hall this year and after playing for the union many times has the pedigree for a place in the team. The Future of the Halifax Golf Club Scratch Team is looking good and hopefully we can bring success back to the golf club. Halifax & Huddersfield Foursomes UPCOMING • FIXTURES Crow Nest 1 v Halifax 1 @ Hebden Bridge • Dewsbury 1 v Halifax 2 @ Queensbury The Halifax and Huddersfield Union Foursomes will commence on Monday the 18th of May. Halifax have got 2 teams in again this year and they are in the opposite sides of the draw not like last year when we got paired against each other in the first round. Players Jamie Smith and Darren Davison had a valiant run last year and it only ended after an epic 37 holes at Willow Valley in the semi final losing out on the last hole to West End. The match was tight through-out the first 18holes and after playing the 1st again bad light stopped any further play. The match resumed 3 days later and it was decided that we start again over 18 holes and narrowly missing out losing 1up on the last. Halifax 1 will play Crow Nest at Hebden Bridge, whilst Halifax 2 will play last years winners Dewsbury 1 at Queensbury. Halifax & Huddersfield League The Halifax Scratch Team are in Division 2 of the Halifax and Huddersfield Union and have 10 matches through out the season starting on Thursday the 21st of May the first tee off at 5.30pm. We start the season with 3 home games with Crosland Heath the first visiting Team followed by Outlane then Crow Nest, we then have a 5 match stretch all away so points on the board in the first 3 home matches are a must for us to take control of this league and return back to the top flight of union golf in Division 1. It would be great to see some support on our home games so if you are at a loose end and want to watch some quality golf please come along your support is always welcome.
