Families with children of all ages are invited to attend (see page 4 for a complete listing of programs). No registration is needed to attend the program. Nationally, library summer reading programs are recognized as an effective way to maintain children’s reading skills during the long summer hiatus from their classrooms. Hamden’s Summer Reading Game is endorsed by the Hamden Public Schools and can be played in conjunction with reading required by local schools and the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge. Participants keep track of the time they spend reading either on a reading log or online through the library’s website. At designated intervals readers qualify for prizes which serve as an incentive to continue reading. This year’s Summer Reading Program concludes with a performance by drummer Craig Norton at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12.
