SENJA HIKING TOUR TO SUKKERTOPPEN (SUGAR LOAF) 456 MASL DEPARTURE FROM HAMN I SENJA BY FOOT Start in Hamn in Senja by foot and walk to the main road 86. Turn right, follow the road for 850 m, then take left up the path in the hillside. Easy walk up to around 160 masl/ 2,7 km, then steeper. On the way you will pass the dam built for the first hydro electric power station in the world. The last part is quite steep. Arrangement will be made for the Summer season 2014 to make it easier to reach the top. Great view from 456 masl over the fjord, Hamn in Senja and the mountains surrounding the fjord. MAP FROM HAMN IN SENJA TO THE SUKKERTOPPEN PEAK http://www.lommekjent.no/ruter/1772549 HOW TO GET TO HAMN I SENJA From Finnsnes city: Drive through the city, and when you have passed the bridge to Senja, you drive straight ahead in the first crossing, and follow road 86 for around 43 km, passing a maelstrom and the biggest troll in the world. Do not turn right onto road 862 towards Skaland on the way, even if our address is Skaland. Hamn in Senja is marked with a sign on road 86 where you should take right, and drive for a few hundred metres more to the parking place. From Tromsø city along the National scenic route: Follow the road 862 to Brensholmen and the ferry. Car-ferry takes around 45 min. to Botnhamn on Senja. From Botnhamn: Follow road 862 for about 7,5 km, then turn right again, and continue on the road 862 for another 19,2 km. Take left in the crossing, through a tunnel and continue on road 862 for 13 km. more. Great viewpoint at Tungeneset in Ersfjorden. Drive through a second tunnel, and take left in the next crossing and continue onto road 862 for 16 km. Take right, still on road 862, and drive for another 10,8 km. From Tromsø city along the inland route: Follow the road E6 to Buktamoen, and turn right onto road 86 towards Finnsnes city. Drive through the city, and when you have passed the bridge to Senja, you drive straight ahead in the first crossing, and follow road 86 for around 43 km, passing a maelstrom and the biggest troll in the world. Do not turn right onto road 862 towards Skaland on the way, even if our address is Skaland, stay on road 86 towards Gryllefjord. From Andenes – in Summer only: Take the Summer ferry to Gryllefjord, ferry: 1h 45 min. Continue onto road 86 towards Finnsnes for around 17,5 km. There will be a Hamn in Senja sign by the road and where you should turn left in the crossing. After a few hundred metres, you will arrive the parking place just past a bridge. Welcome!
