Is Wiggle It Jiggleit Ready to be the Sport's
Next Megastar?
By Bill Finley
Can anybody beat Wiggle It Jiggleit? For that matter, can
anybody come close to beating W iggle It Jiggleit?
Based on what happened on an otherwise sleepy
Monday evening earlier this week at Harrington Raceway
those are legitimate questions. Maybe he'll come crashing
down to earth when he faces better competition. Or maybe
he'll just keep crushing every opponent that stands in his
way, like great
horses do. Be a
skeptic if you
want, but all the
signs are pointing
towards this being
one of the most
special horses
that has come
Wiggle It Jiggleit in his world record
around in a long
performance Monday at Harrington
time. At the very
least, the possibilities are wonderfully exciting.
The funny thing about W iggle It Jiggleit is that he's never
competed for a big purse or faced a good horse. But, in this
case, that doesn't seem to matter. W hat he has done has
been so special that it's almost impossible to imagine that
he could be a fluke.
The latest chapter occurred Monday at Harrington, and it
was the most sensational one yet. Owner George Teague
Jr. snuck his homebred by Mr. W iggles into an $11,000
overnight race at Harrington. Considering the level of
competition, it amounted to a training mile, not at all the
type of spot where he could have been expected to enter
the record books.
But he did. W inning by 14 1/4 lengths, he paced in 1:49,
the fastest mile ever by a 3-year-old on a half-mile track.
And he did so with driver Montrell Teague, George's son,
sitting like a statue in the sulky.
(To watch the race click xx)
"I have never seen a horse go in 1:49 on a half-mile
racetrack in May and win by almost 15 lengths and the
whip was never raised," George Teague said. "I've seen a
lot of great horses race, but I've never seen a horse do
what he did the other day. I've never seen a horse that has
the bit full up in his mouth ever time he races and every
time he crosses the wire."
Though the purse was a mere $11,000, Teague said
Monday's win was one of the highlights of his career.
"I won the Meadowlands Pace, I won a division of the
Hambletonian Oaks, I have won $1 million races, and I was
more excited to see that race than any of those others," he
said. "It was more exciting for me than any race I have ever
seen. I have never seen a horse do what he did the other
night."
It's like W iggle It Jiggleit came out of nowhere. A horse
with a far from fashionable pedigree, he raced just once
last year before Teague and his cohort, listed trainer Clyde
Francis, put the gelding away for the year. After an easy
win in January at Dover, W iggle It reappeared in the
Sonsam Series at the Meadowlands, a 3-year-old taking on
older horses. He won that race in 1:49.4 and has never
slowed down. Eight races into his career, he is undefeated
and looking better all the time.
Part of the excitement is due to the words that keep
flowing out of Teague's mouth. He has trained a Horse of
the Year (Rainbow Blue) and numerous stars and was
saying all the way back in February that this was the best
horse he's ever trained. Now, he's willing to go even
further.
"I'm not a bragger but I told people this was the best

horse I have ever had and I think that speaks volumes,"
Teague said. "Now I'll say this: he's by far the best one I've
ever had. I've never had one that can match this horse so
far as speed, lung capacity and ability to flat out go fast for
a long, long ways."
Teague is still contemplating his schedule for the next
month or so. He was originally planning to go to Hoosier
Park to compete in Indiana Sire Stakes races, but is
leaning against that now because of the shipping involved.
He's definitely got the June 20 Pepsi North America Cup at
Mohawk on his schedule and plans to use the
Somebeachsomewhere as a prep.
In one breath he says, "I know the big dogs aren't out yet
and I respect those horses. I am sure they will make it
competitive. The horses he has been beating are
minuscule compared to the ones he'll be facing."
And then he says, "I just can't see them matching him in
speed. How do you match a horse that goes 26.4, 54.1 (his
fractions at Harrington) and just crushes the record as easy
as he did."
The Crawford Farms Meadowlands Pace is also on his
schedule, but the Jug, the Lexington races and the
Breeders Crown are not as the horse hasn't been staked to
those events.
"He'll have every chance to make plenty of money this
year," Teague said.
Meanwhile the trainer is living a dream. The last few
years have been quiet ones for Teague as he has
downsized his stable and concentrated on homebreds.
That's usually a very hard way to come up with a good
horse, but somehow Teague might have come up with a
great one. Better yet, his son is the driver.
"The main bonus is almost indescribable and it's having
Montrell driving this kind of horse," he said. "He and I, not
only are we father and son we are best friends. W e have
never had an argument in our lives. He is a great young
man. This is more for him than me. I've already won a lot of
big races . I've been there. To have a horse you bred
yourself, with your son in the bike, that's more fun than
anything I could imagine. That's why winning an $11,000
race at Harrington Raceway was more fun to me than
winning Meadowlands Pace or Hambletonian Oaks."
It's a great story. The homebred by a sire nobody wanted
to breed to, the gelding that comes out of nowhere and,
perhaps, goes on to be the next Somebeachsomewhere or
Niatross. W ill he? W ith this horse, anything is possible.

Takter Sweeps Pa Sire Stakes at Chester
By Bill Finley
Jimmy Takter, who dominated the 3-year-old male
trotting ranks last year, could be even more loaded in that
division this year.
There were four
divisions of
Pennsylvania Sire
Stakes races
yesterday at Chester
for 3-year-old male
trotters and Takter
won all four. Each one
Whom Shall I Fear was one of four in the quartet is

contenders.
"You never know,
but I thought all my horses would be very good," Takter
said. "I was very proud of all four of them."
Takter kicked off his four bagger with a win by Uncle
Lasse in the third race on the card. The full brother to
Shake It Cerry won by 10 3/4 lengths with Brett Miller
driving, His time was 1:53.
Next up was W hom Shall I Fear. A full brother to Father
Patrick, he was winless last year as a 2-year-old, hardly
living up to the $475,000 they paid for him at Lexington. But
this is the new and improved W hom Shall I Fear, who is
now 4 for 4 on the year. He won by a length in 1:54.1.
In the tenth race, The Bank won by three-quarters of a
length in 1:56. Takter doubled as the driver. Paying $2.80,
The Bank was actually the longest price of any of the
Takter winners.
Dan Patch Award winner Pinkman was next. W ith
Yannick Gingras driving, he won the 13th race on the card
by four lengths in 1:52.2.
"I was very impressed with Pinkman," Takter said. "It's
very impressive to win on that track in 52.2 there and go
27.4 in end. You can never rule that horse out. He is just
an ordinary horse to be around. He's not a flashy horse but
he was very good today and I know Yannick was very
impressed with him today."
Takter will look to add to his 3-year-old trotting arsenal
tonight as Canepa Hanover goes in a New Jersey Sire
Stakes race at the Meadowlands. This one costs $300,000
at Harrisburg and also had a lackluster 2-year-old
campaign, winning just one of six starts. But Takter seems
as high on him as any horse in his barn.
"Canepa Hanover is this year's Trixton," he said. "I love
that horse. There's a possibility he could get beat because
Guess W hos Back is a good horse and they have the rail.
Canepa Hanover is the kind of horse that I have to let him
do his own thing. You can't rush him into anything Canepa
is my Trixton of 2015 and that's why I am driving him. He
has as much ability as any of the four I raced today."
Perhaps the only thing standing in the way of Takter and
two straight Hambletonian wins is a monster called Mission
Brief. She's also on tonight's card at the Meadowlands in
sire stakes action in what will be her 3-year-old debut.
"It's going to be hard. Mission Brief is as good a horse as
any I have ever seen," Takter said. "If you face her there's
no room for error. A horse like Pinkman, he doesn't give up.
He will challenge her. Normally they should improve by at
least a second and a half from their 2 to 3-year-old year
and if that's the case with Mission Brief she's a 1:49 trotter.
It’s going to be hard to beat her. The Hambletonian is a
long way away and you don't know what's going to happen.
I think there are a lot of good colts out there in addition to
mine."
Always B Miki Injured, to Miss Several Months
Coming off an outstanding 3-year-old campaign, Always
B Miki suffered a major
setback earlier this week,
fracturing his right hind leg.
The talented Indiana bred
had fractured his left hind leg
earlier in his career.
“I trained him last Saturday

Always B Miki has fractured and I never sat behind a
his right hind leg
horse that powerful in my
life,” said Jimmy Takter, who
only recently took over the training duties from Joe

afterwards. He fractured his opposite leg from the one he

Patty Hogan very optimistic. She said 30 days stall rest and
30 days swimming and then he can get back to training. I
expect him to participate little bit at the end of year if things
go right. I was so heartbroken I actually cried. I really, really
like this horse. It's part of the game but you hate to see
horses get hurt.”
(racing secretary) Steve Starr and as is typically the case,
so they avoid lawsuits, he would not give me a reason.”
Brainard said Starr told her she could reapply to race at
the next meet.
Brainard said that she is permitted to race at all other
tracks in New York and disputed a published report that
she had also been tossed out of Saratoga. In fact, Brainard
has five in tomorrow night at Saratiga.

“Anything that helps create some fresh commerce in the

One thing’s for sure, if you have a quality horse, no matter
the age, you’re going to find a very willing buyer.”
The biggest name in the catalogue is that of W arrawee

Race 7, N/W $15,000 L5 Trot
SUMATRA made $170K last year and it probably would
have been more if not for him racing a bit over his head
most of the time. He's off to a nice looking start this
season in two starts for Fanning and will be a threat in here
after jogging at Philly in his most recent. OPULENT
YANKEE has never finished worse than second this year in
13 starts and who knows how many more wins he'd have if
not for JL Cruze. The fact that he pushed past #4 in that
recent qualifier is inspiring. HANDOVER BELLE returns
after a few weeks off and is an obvious short priced
contender for Burke. She wasn't at her best earlier in the
year here but we all know what she's capable of; the likely
favorite. RESOLVE makes his 4YO debut for Svanstedt
and is another that faced stiff competition at times last year.
IT REALLY MATTERS invades for Remmen.
Race 8, F&M N/W $16,500 L5 Pace
ANGELS DELIGHT finished last in a compact field of six
Open mares last week but she didn't exactly disgrace
herself either. Actually it's amazing that she went from the
bottom level to the Open in just three starts and certainly
looks sharp enough to handle these on the tick back down.
COFFEE ADDICT drops to a spot where she should be
able to demonstrate something positive; there's no question
she's been a disappointment this year with that 0 for 13
record. SAYTALL BB gave it up in the lane last week after
Gingras quarter-moved with her to the front; last year’s
surprising Crown winner is likely to be blasting again.
BEACH STORY was last seen here in November's Crown
and those were classy foes that she recently qualified
against; should be moving forward late. ADDY'S W AY has
surprised here this meet more than once and this is a spot
where she could jump up again at a price.
Race 9, N/W $10,750 L5 Trot
QUICK DEAL drops back down a notch in his third race of
the season and by all rights should crush this group. It's
surprising he was so widely overlooked two back when he
lost only to Muscle Network and that foe came back to
crush rivals last week as a repeat winner. He's a near FFA
trotter when right and should only need a flat mile to beat
these. LAZARUS had a good deal amount of late trot after
being caught behind a tiring horse last week; he's a threat
should the top choice stumble in any way. POUNCE
HANOVER went down in defeat last out for the first time in
five starts since the McDermott claim. He looked all done

around three quarters that night but he can bounce back;
going right to the front once again. CHINESE CUISINE
has had some success here in the past.
Race 10, N/W $7,500 L5 Trot
EXQUISITE GLIDE comes here from Mohawk but he's won
in these parts before. He recently qualified for Alagna to be
second to a formidable trotter and is good enough to beat
these right off the bat. DNIEPER ships up from Rosecroft
and he's another that won here last year; positive driver
change working for him too. B YOYO goes for connections
I normally wouldn't consider but this is the best level for
him; I wouldn't be surprised to see him land a share.
DREAM ROCKER had it all his own way last out but still
couldn't last against a big longshot; needs more stamina.
