The text is Currie, Hill, Kramer and Roosevelt, CONFLICT OF
LAWS: CASES – COMMENTS – QUESTIONS (9th edition 2013).
There is nothing else to buy and nothing else is
recommended. There will also be a supplement entitled
“Supplemental Pennsylvania Materials on Conflict of
Laws,” which I am currently updating due to some recent
important developments. It will be available to download
from TWEN. We won’t need it for a while.
For the first day I will talk a bit and give some history of
Conflicts and Conflicts theory and then go into the
following cases: Alabama Great Southern RR; Milliken;
Barrie’s Estate; White. All other reading assignments will
be posted on TWEN. For the near future we are going
straight through the book, so feel free to read ahead for
Thursday.
I have created the TWEN page and it is accessible, so go
ahead and sign up for it. There is little to no content at this
point but I will be adding content as we go.

all assignments mentioned there for the first day of
class. Make sure you are able to access TWEN easily, as
a good many supplemental cases and readings and the
occasional extra assignment are found there.

2. Be sure to bring to class an 8 ½” x 11” card with your
first name written in large letters, and last name below
in smaller letters, to help me with names during the
class. This card goes in front of you in your assigned
seat, please. Thanks for the help.
3. Generally read the introduction to the rule supplement
you will use throughout the course, to familiarize
yourself with how it is organized and what it contains
that might help you. Same for the introduction to the
ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct.
4. You will be allowed to use your rule supplement in the
final exam, but while you may underline or highlight
portions of rules and even tab the supplement with rule
numbers or even the names of the rules, no other
annotations, writings, etc., of your book will be allowed
unless I specifically tell you to do so; other annotations
will be a violation of the honor code.
