27 MARCH 2015
Hay Shire Council Next Ordinary Meeting - 28th April 2015 at 1.00pm
Council appoints Honorary Town Crier
At its Ordinary meeting held 24th March, Council appointed Mr Bryn Hall as its honorary Town Crier. Bryn’s
first engagement in Hay is for Shear Outback promoting
the Shearer’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
In full regalia, Mr Hall provided Council with an exceptional example of his skills outside the Shire office and
certainly managed to grab the attention of everyone in
the CBD.
The Town Crier will add a unique touch to many of Hay’s
upcoming events and festivals and will provide visitors
with a memorable experience of Hay.
Council welcomes Bryn and his wife Karen who moved
to Hay five weeks ago to manage the Nicholas Royal
Motel.
Mr Hall advises he is happy to take bookings to give
talks on the history of town crying.

Cow Park
The Hay War Memorial High School has begun its five year lease of Cow Park which is
located on the western side of the High School and will be utilising the land for an
extension of their Agricultural Plot.
Council has created an earth barrier with signage on the dirt road cut through to stop
vehicular access through Cow Park between Morgan and Cadell Streets. This is to
educate people that it is not a public road and prepare for fencing of the area which
will be erected after Easter.

Big Weekends
At a recent Business Advisory Panel Meeting it was decided to run a “big weekend”
three times a year, similar to the annual Paint the Town Red weekend. These are
the chosen long weekends, the themes and all the annual events that usually run
on that weekend:
 April/Easter (Sheep) – Festival of the Blades, Working Dog Trials, Easter Gun
Club Shoot & Booligal Sheep Races (following weekend)
 June (Mini) – Mini Nationals, BnS, Vanguards, Bowls Tournament
 November (Red) – Paint the Town Red (late night shopping), Hay Races
It is acknowledged there are other events not relating to these themes on the relevant weekends, but these themes were chosen as an easy start to the concept of
having a limited amount of “Big” Weekends in Hay and with the intention to provide
a great atmosphere in the town for shoppers and visitors. It is envisaged that these
weekends will be trialled in 2015, only to be continued if proven successful.
This Easter we are kicking off with a sheep themed weekend, where business houses can decorate their shop/window to the theme, with prizes for best window display and best shop atmosphere.
Council appreciates the support of businesses with this initiative which will ensure
visitors to the town have an experience they remember.
