Hello! My name is Laura Mortensen and I’m running for the office of Vice President of Discounts and
Tickets for the Houston ExxonMobil Club. This is a very exciting time for the HEMC with the Fairfax office
moving to Houston and the high probability of our membership growing quite significantly in the near
future. If I’m elected as VP Discounts and Tickets, I would bring a number of new and exciting ideas to
the club including:
1. North Houston Discounts/Tickets: Approach places of interest in north Houston to see
if they would be willing to offer our members discounts including:
 Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
 Top Golf
 Massage Envy
 Local restaurants
2. Computer/Electronic and Cable/Internet Discounts: Investigate new and creative
member discounts with vendors such as:
 Apple
 Comcast Xfinity/AT&T U-verse/DIRECTV
 Best Buy
3. HEMC Classifieds: Introduce the idea of an HEMC Classifieds Site (similar to Craigs List
but internal to HEMC) where members could buy and sell things to each other. The Fairfax
ExxonMobil Club started one this year so I know there is interest out there.
4. Automate Ticket Ordering: As a Knowledge Management and SharePoint Consultant at
ExxonMobil, I would use my expertise in SharePoint and business process improvement to
enhance and/or automate ticket ordering processes, when needed and possible.
Currently and in the recent past, I have held numerous volunteer leadership roles including Social
Director of a large single’s Sunday school class, President of the House Corporation Board of Directors
for a sorority at UH and Assistant Captain of a Houston Rodeo Committee. In these roles I have learned
many useful skills that I could bring to the VP Discounts and Tickets position. From leading teams/boards
and working/negotiating with outside vendors to organizing large events and running big projects, these
would all serve me well in a position within HEMC.
I sincerely care about making sure that our members continue to have access to the BEST discounts
and special offers available. Thank you for considering me to be the next VP Discounts and Tickets for
HEMC.
