Lesson: Palm Sunday We have been talking about how God is the creator. God created the earth and all the thing on it. He created you and me. Last week we talked more specifically how God created you, he knows you and will not leave you. Today, we are going to prepare to celebrate Easter. Does anyone know what Easter is? Well, the week before Easter, back when Jesus was living, they were going to Jerusalem to celebrate the passover. The passover was a remembrance form when Moses was alive. But before Jesus and his disciples came to Jerusalem, Jesus said two of the disciples, “Go into the village in front of you. You will immediately find a donkey. Untie it, and bring the donkey to me.” The disciples obeyed Jesus and brought him the donkey. They put their cloaks, kinda like a long jacket, on March Week 4! 3/22/15! ! Page 2 ! the donkey and Jesus rode into Jerusalem. This is very important because God’s word, the Bible, says earlier, “your king will come, riding a donkey.” When Jesus got to the gate, the crowd saw him. Many of the people put their cloaks or palm branches on the ground. Then the people waved the palm branches shouting, “Hosanna! Hosanna, in the highest!” Now some of the leaders in Jerusalem were not happy about all the attention people were giving Jesus. They were not happy that they were calling Jesus king. However, all of this is part of God’s plan to show us how much he loves us. Reinforce Lesson: Option 1 - Read and Share DVD Bible Disc 1 - The first Lord Supper (just the first part). Cut off after Jesus enters Jerusalem. OR you can read the story, Jesus and the Donkey, from the Read and Share Bible (pg 172-175). Option 2 - Read the story for The Beginners Bible (pg 427-432). If you choose to do the palm branch craft, you can have the students use these. Arts and Crafts: Palm Branch - Cut one piece of green construction paper per child in the shape of a palm branch. Then let the children use the scissors to cut the leaves. You could also do a palm branch using the students’ hand prints, but this is a lot of cutting. March Week 4! 3/22/15! ! Page 3 !
