Spin and Sip Fundraiser: Join us (adults only!) on Thursday, April 16th at 7:30 pm at Cycle Bar in Wellesley for a beginner/moderate-level spin class. Then, stick around a bit for some refreshments after! Not only will this be a fun way for parents to socialize, but it’s a great way to test out spinning for those that have been contemplating taking a class, but were too raffle off some fun items to our wonderful Hillside nervous to go! For the first time ever, the Hillside community is participating in this townwide community day of service to support children in need across Massachusetts. Come with your family to sort, pack and load donations from 10 am-2 pm on Saturday March 28th at Needham High. This day of service is a wonderful experience for everyone! Not only do families help with sorting and loading items, but some kids also help write letters to other children wishing them a great school year (for next year). You need not volunteer for the entire time period – come for as long as your schedule permits. We need all the help we can get! Art Classes at Hillside School Needham Public Schools - Elementary Visual Arts - Fine & Performing Arts Department S.T.E.A.M. is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. It is not a program, but a philosophical approach to learning that integrated knowledge from the various disciplines. The STEAM experience in Needham is divided into four 9-week segments with each focusing on a different aspect of how these various disciplines are interconnected. Our students are getting ready to show off the fruits of their labor and will soon begin creating and practicing gymnastic sentences which utilize skills learned in class. Gymnastic sentences are routines that students create on their own which combine their creative thoughts and ideas along with their physical ability to move through space. Needham Nutrition Services is happy to be holding the Second Annual Recipe Contest. Our goal is to inspire the students to think about new and different ways to incorporate healthy foods into their diet and to get in the kitchen and cook! This year, we will be focusing on eating a variety of colors of fruits and vegetables by creating an original dessert. The recipe should contain at least one or more of the following, the total fruits and/or vegetables in the recipe should total at least ! cup per serving (so if the recipe serves 4 – you will have used 1 cup of fruits/veggies): Strawberries Watermelon Cantaloupe Carrots Sweet Potatoes Pineapple Banana Kiwi Honeydew Zucchini Blueberries Purple Grapes Students interested in participating will be expected to bring in their recipes (ingredient list and instructions), as well as 4 servings of the prepared food.
