Good Friday
MUSIC PROGRAM
The Stations of the Cross precede the Solemn Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion.

The Liturgy begins with lessons from the Old Testament that tell of the ancient
mercy of God and the first Passover, and psalms that foretell the Crucifixion and
Death of our Lord. The texts for these readings and tracts can be found in the
missal, or the Sacred Triduum booklets available in the vestibule of the church.


There follow the Solemn Prayers for the needs of the Church and of all the world,
beseeching God to pour out His mercy on all the human race. Please refer to the
Missal or the Sacred Triduum booklet for the texts.

Hail, O Cross, our only hope! In this
holy Passiontide, increase grace for the
faithful and wipe away the sins of the
guilty.
O Holy Trinity, Well-spring of Salvation, let every spirit highly praise
Thee! To those whom Thou hast granted
the victory of the Cross, bestow also the
reward of heaven. Amen.
When the Solemn Prayers have been concluded, preparations are begun for the
Adoration of the Holy Cross.


my mouth shall declare Thy praise!
For if Thou hadst desired sacrifice, I
would surely have given it; but with
burnt offerings Thou wilt not be delighted.
A sacrifice to God is an afflicted spirit;
a contrite and humbled heart, O God,
Thou wilt not spurn.
Deal kindly with Sion, O Lord, in Thy
great love, so that the walls of Jerusalem
may rise again.
Then shalt Thou accept the sacrifice of
justice: oblations and whole burnt offerings; then shall they lay calves upon
Thine altar.
