Preparing for the Day:
Overview of Event
Lincoln Park Zoo has planned a fun-filled day for Hope Institute Learning Academy (HILA) families. There will
be a number of educational activities including our interactive mobile learning stations, activities families can
do together, free exploration around the zoo, post cards to write other family members and friends about the
experience, and more! Each family will also receive a gift bag full of our school-age educational resources that
can be used on future visits.
This event is for IMMEDIATE family members (parents, guardians, siblings, and grandparents) of
HILA students only. Lunch will be provided to those who RSVP.
RSVP to the Event
An RSVP is requested if attending this event. Lunch will only be offered to those who RSVP and have a
ticket. To RSVP, go to http://lpzoo.doubleknot.com/survey/2015-sas-family-day/44817 and input the
following information:

Whether or not the free bus transportation is being utilized
Deadline for RSVPs is Wednesday May 27, 2015 at 11:59PM.
Pre-Visit Activity
To help make the most of the day, we recommend that families work together to complete the “Plan Your
Route” activity prior to the visiting the zoo. The activity can be found on pages 3-6 of this packet.

Getting to Lincoln Park Zoo:
Bus Transportation from Hope Institute Learning Academy
Bus transportation will be provided from Hope Institute Learning Academy to Lincoln Park Zoo free of
charge. Please be on-site no later than 9:30 am for the bus departures.
Buses will leave HILA for Lincoln Park Zoo as they fill up, and will depart no later than 9:30 am (at the
discretion of the principal and vice principal). Plan to arrive between 9 am and 9:30 am.

Buses will drop off and pick up at the Bus Drop-off Zone, #31 on the map.
Public Transportation
For those who prefer to use public transportation, CTA bus route 151 serves the zoo. More public
transportation options can be found by using www.google.com/transit.
Driving
Street parking can be found on Stockton Drive, West of Lincoln Park Zoo or on Cannon Drive, North of Lincoln
Park Zoo. If you choose to park on the street, please adhere to any posted parking restrictions!
Alternately, you may enter our parking lot, located on Cannon Drive, from Fullerton Parkway. Cannon Drive is
located between Stockton and Lake Shore Drive.

Once you arrive at Lincoln Park Zoo:
Check-in for HILA Families
HILA families should check in at the Educator Information Station just inside the Bus Drop-off Zone, #31 on
the map. A gift bag of educational resources will be provided to each family at check-in.
Lunch and Family Gathering
Lunch will be provided for all families who RSVP’d in the Foreman Pavilion, #32 on the map. Lunch will be
available between 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. If a family did not RSVP, they are welcome to bring a lunch
from home or to purchase lunch from any on-grounds concessions.
The Foreman Pavilion also has restroom facilities and picnic tables. HILA Families are welcome and
encouraged to use this as a gathering place throughout the day.
As part of this gathering, Lincoln Park Zoo and HILA will acknowledge all those involved in the planning
of the event as well as the funders of the SAS program at 12:00pm.
Activities for the Day
A variety of organized activities will be available throughout the day. In addition, students may have favorite
exhibits that they would like to share with their families!
