JOB DESCRIPTION Vacancy Ref: A1223 Job Title: Senior Research Associate and Impact Fellow in practical Present Grade: 7 quantum technologies Department/College: Physics (QTC) Directly responsible to: Dr R J Young Supervisory responsibility for: n/a Other contacts Internal: Head of Department External: Major Duties: The project entails developing practical quantum technologies for applications near-term applications, such as in information security. You will take a leading role in developing and measure structures emitting or processing quantum light, using; III-V semiconductors, 2D materials and/or plasmonics. You will provide supervisory input to post graduate students in the group and will be encouraged and given support to apply for personal fellowships, to work towards research independence. The University has considerable state-of-the-art facilities that you will be expected to use as part of this project, including: A fabrication suite and cleanroom. The Lancaster Quantum Technology Centre officially opened in 2014, it contains a fully fitted class 100/1000 cleanrooms with e-beam lithography and plasma etching tools, amongst many others, and a new MBE machine. Advanced characterisation laboratories including photoluminescence (high resolution time-resolved, and high field), scanning probe microscopy, X-ray diffraction, SEM and others. You will also benefit from strong collaboration with Security Lancaster, which was awarded a Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security Research by GCHQ and the EPSRC.
