DRESS CODE FOR CCHS BANQUETS & PROMS
We ask parents to remind their children, both young
men and young women, to wear appropriate clothing
for the banquets. Young men should be attired in
either formal or Sunday-best shirt, tie, and pants.
Young women’s dresses may have no bare midriff, no
completely bare backs, no completely bare backs
covered only with strings, no deep necklines, no
excessively high-cut slits in the skirts, and no very
short skirts.
Also, be aware that the Parent Organization
requires that leggings be worn to the dance
portion of the Prom if your dress is 3 inches or
more above your kneecap.
These clothing requirements also apply to any nonCCHS student who will be attending our prom as the
guest of one of our students.
Should you or your child have any question about the
appropriateness of his or her attire, please contact Mrs.
Ensink.
Service Requirement:
It is noteworthy that the senior class collectively
completed 3,125 service hours over the last four
years.
All students, excluding seniors, are reminded to turn
in all paperwork pertaining to service hours completed
this semester. Students may submit those hours online by going to the Student Life Center web site.
Any questions, please contact our SLC Coordinator,
Tom Hochhalter at 532-3210, ext. 249 or e-mail him
at [email protected]

For 40 days we prayed individually and as a
community. We prayed the Lord’s Prayer, a
prayer most of us have prayed many times,
perhaps sometimes even without really thinking
about the incredible meaning of the words. During these
forty days, the Lord’s Prayer took on new flesh for me and
for many others in our community. The power of prayer is
unbelievable for every student, teacher, staff member,
parent, and every member of our community at GCCS. We
were blessed each day by how God revealed more about
Himself and the power of prayer in the scriptures. As each
day passed I was blessed, but I also became a bit anxious
about the 40 days ending. These prayers and reflections
were a great discipline for us and an incredible opportunity
to pray to God in a new way. What happens when they
stop? Will we forget to think of God and of prayer in the
same way?
During these 40 days, we started by acknowledging who
God is. He is both the Creator of the universe and yet our
loving and caring Father. That piece alone should transform
how we will live each day. How do we continue to remain in
awe and wonder of who God is each day to come? For 40
days we praised God for who He is and what He does for
us each day. How will we discipline ourselves after Lent to
still be grateful each day for the blessings that God showers
upon us? So often we complain about things that we desire
to be different. These prayers helped us to pray to God to
let His Kingdom come here on earth as it is in heaven. I
wonder how often we really think about what that means. If
His Kingdom truly comes, what does that mean for how will
we treat each person we interact with each day and how
will we view our finances or our futures? We asked God’s
will and not our will to be done. How will we continue to lean
into that mindset as our own wills are constantly battling
with God’s Spirit within us? We may not forget to ask for our
daily bread as this is often the easiest piece for us to pray,
but we still reflect on what Jesus really meant by being fed
by him both physically and spiritually? How will we
remember to really ask and accept our Father’s forgiveness
and also to really forgive and to really ask for forgiveness?
How will we remember to keep praying about temptation
and deliverance from the evil one, who finds ways to tempt
us moment to moment?
The answer of course is we will not. We have all, both
young and older, been on that mission trip or attended that
retreat and experienced the mountaintop high. We are
experiencing that during this season of Lent as we
discipline ourselves to pray and fast and spend time in
intimate communion with God. However, the real discipline
will come the day after Easter. After we feast together and
celebrate the risen Christ, we will re-enter our daily routine.
It is then that we will need to find new ways each morning
to seek that space, time, and intimacy with our heavenly
Father. We will need God to help us to keep close to Him.
We will not be able to do it on our strength. We have
developed a life-giving habit in this season that we would
like to continue. The prayer focus team will be sending out
some material to help guide you during this time. Our hope
and prayer is that we will be able to use prayer guides to
help focus our prayer between Easter and Pentecost and
move us from praying for ourselves to praying for God’s
world. May all God’s people continue to grow closer to Him
each day.

SEVERE WEATHER INFORMATION
Tornado Closing: When notified in
advance of a tornado WATCH or
WARNING, these emergency
procedures will be followed:
1. When a WARNING is issued, students will not
leave the building, but will be taken by their
teacher to the safest area in the building.
2. In the event of a WARNING, students may be
detained after usual dismissal time.
3. In the event of a WATCH at normal dismissal
time, students will be dismissed as usual.
4. At any time parents may pick up their own
children.
The various public schools with whom we are related for
busing purposes all have a similar tornado policy. In the
event of a tornado WATCH situation, busing will be done
as it is on a regular school day.
A tornado policy regarding after school activities has
been set for coaches.
Watch/Warning given while school is in session:
 All practices and events scheduled after school
(4:00 p.m.) will be cancelled.
 Events which are scheduled later in the evening
(e.g. 6:30 p.m.) will be cancelled if the “all clear”
is not given at least two hours prior to the
starting time of the event.
Watch/Warning given after school has been
dismissed:
 All practices and contests in progress will be
immediately suspended and the athletes will
report to the locker rooms. If there is an
immediate threat, athletes outside should use
the ravine that runs past the tennis courts.
 Events scheduled later in the evening, see
above under “Watch/Warning while school is in
session”.

as we continue building relationships with our Africa friends.
Our host family in Malawi is April and Steve Palmbos.
If your family would like to contribute to this, please drop off
your support to Mrs. Rubingh in the high school office or

JUNIOR A.C.T. REGISTRATION
Students are encouraged to take at least 3 A.C.T.’s during
their Junior year and the first part of their Senior year. Most
colleges need scores by the end of December for scholarship
purposes. (Please check with each college for their
deadline.) Students who are interested in taking the June 13
test must register online at www.actstudent.org by May 8.
The A.C.T. is used as a college entry exam, and also a
qualifier for the Michigan Competitive Scholarship and many
other scholarship programs. A.C.T. preparation booklets and
other materials are available in the Guidance Office.
Underclassmen are always welcome to take the A.C.T.
SCHEDULE CHANGES
Students: if you have any second thoughts about a course
for which you are registered next year and have a strong
desire to make a change, the time to do so is now. The
closer we get to the start of next year, the more difficult it is
to change schedules. Do not wait until the last moment as
the opportunity to change may not exist then.
Reminder: You have 1 week at the beginning of a
semester to add a class, and 3 weeks at the beginning of
each semester to drop a class without penalty.
JUNIORS HEADING TO CAREERQUEST!
On April 28, all Juniors will be going to CareerQuest at

hours 1-3. We’re looking for a few parent volunteers to
join us as chaperones. Please call the high school office
if you’re interested at 538-0990.

GCCS Auction 2016
Are you interested in serving on the 2016 Auction
committee? We are looking for two people from GCS,
two people from CCMS and two from CCHS to serve
on this committee.
The committee will meet one time each in September,
October, November, and December and once per

individuals apart from our host family program
may pay differently than that, often less. We
