Colorado Government Human Services Financial
Officer’s Association
Save the dates of May 13—15, 2015 for the
CGHSFOA annual conference. This year we’re setting up in Colorado Springs at the beautiful Hotel
Elegante. Visit our www.hsfoa.org website for more
information and registration forms. We have a fun
and educational agenda….see you there!
I’d like to share a few easy networking tips that I found online at
www.bargaineering.com.
1. Know who you are and be yourself
Understand your personality, and what you have to offer. Then be yourself. Be comfortable with who you are,
and then let others see the great person that you are.
2. Know what you do and be ready to explain
Think about what you do, and be ready to explain it to others. A really good exercise is to create and ‘elevator
pitch’ for yourself. This is a 15 second personal statement covering who you are and what you do.
3. Have business cards on hand
Be ready to pass out business cards and don’t forget to collect them. When you get back to your hotel room,
write down something on the back of the card to help you remember that person, or jot down something you
talked about.
4. Shake hands firmly and make appropriate eye contact
Be sure that you come across as confident and ready to network. Speak clearly and introduce yourself. Part of
networking is making a good first impression.
5. Listen
Don’t be so anxious to share everything about you that you forget to listen. You need to take a turn actively
listening to those you meet, you might learn something. One of the most valuable skills is listening.
Officers and Board of Directors Updates
A majority of our time for the past few months has been planning the best conference ever.
Everyone has worked hard to secure sponsorships and presenters, coordinate printing of
presentations, name tags and certificates, building the agenda , and all of the other great things
that happen behind the scene. You will have the opportunity to attend everything.
Kathy Stafford, Arapahoe County, is keeping the website up to date (thank you) through the
conference. Check it out and get registered.
Tony Vigil is serving as interim Treasurer through June 30th.
Members…..think about running for a board
position. The spots open are for Vice President, BOS rep, Secretary, 10 Large rep, Treasurer, and State rep. We meet immediately following FOG. We have telephone conference capability if you are unable to physically be at a
meeting. It’s a good time and never a dull moment—something is always going on. Contact any
board member with your nomination or if you
have any questions.

It’s not all work checking the Settlement Accounting email box. Sometimes I get the greatest giggle
from your very creative replies. These I must share, we’ve all been there!
Really, I have no excuse for this duplication and have no idea how it happened in the first place. It's like a ghost got in there and posted it!!
Sorry I am such a bother, but you are good to put up with me.
I so appreciate the help from both you and Tony!!!! I will try to remember what
month I am in from now on. No promises but I will try.
Now, do I have to print this out and eat it to destroy it?
Colorado Springs golf anyone?
or
Neal is coordinating a round of golf .

conference, please get in touch with him at 720-468-1765

Integration Tool data against Discoverer
Viewer? If you notice differences, email
Settlement Accounting.
Website Update
CGHSFOA website is at www.hsfoa.org. Check it out for updates. Ryan Rivera has
accepted a new position with the State and is no longer able to be our fabulous webmaster. Kathy Stafford is filling in until the conference. We need a new Webmaster. Please speak with a board member if you are interested. THANKS!
I thought I’d share some common questions that I selected from out Settlement Accounting E-Mail account. Maybe someone else has wondered about these things.
How to get access to Settlement Accounting notices?
The current way is to Email [email protected] and ask them to add you to their
contact list. You will soon have the ability to subscribe and unsubscribe through a listserv program.
How do I find a CFDA number and what it includes?
CFDA stands for Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance. The best place for information is on their website, CFDA.GOV. There are programs, agencies, instructions, everything imaginable about CFDA numbers and what they include.
What’s on the portal?
Probably more than I am aware of! Get in there and look around—you can’t break anything.
 The Trails tab contains user manuals, fiscal calendars, communications and contacts for ongoing
Trails issues.
 The Training tab has links for registration for instructor led and web based training for both Trails
and Chats.
 The OIT tab has various tutorials.
 The CFMS tab has CFMS, Discoverer Viewer, Oracle ADI along with other programs. There are also
documents for RMS, ADI template, Discoverer and Unitask User Guides.
 Check out the pages for Employment First, APS, CBMS, CCAP, etc. You may find what you’ve been
looking for.
How do I see my SAA’s on reports, etc.
There are three financial reports in CFMS:
CFMS SAA Posted Detail Report—After the State has approved your SAA, you will find them here.
CFMS SAA WIP Summary Report—once your SAA is county approved, they will show in summary on
this report until the State has approved your SAA.
CFMS SAA Work-in-Progress Report - once your SAA is county approved, they will show in detail on
this report until the State has approved your SAA.
Also, search for posted SAA’s from the ‘Find Journals” screen. From that screen enter %SAA% in the
‘Journal’ field then click Find. You can always fill in the ‘Period’ field to narrow the search. After your
query populates on the “Enter Journals” screen, click within the fields and go to File, Export, and all of
your transactions for the query will show up on an Excel spreadsheet…..pretty sweet!
How do I run a chart of accounts in CFMS?
First of all, no one wants the entire chart of accounts in CFMS. I can’t imagine how massive it is. Let’s
print the program/function/account separately.
Submit a single request for this report.
In the Name field, choose “Chart of Accounts—Segments Values Listing”.
In the Parameters field, select from any of the 4 options (FIPS, PROGRAM, FUNCTION, ACCOUNT).
If you want all 4, you will need to create 4 different reports.
You can go to “Tool’, “Copy” to save the files after they populate.
If you need help with any of the above, please just contact any of us in Settlement Accounting—we enjoy
assisting.
[email protected] if you have news from your office that you would like to share with our members. Everything is exciting…...new employees, retirements, marriages, vacations, graduations, children,
grandchildren and other milestones! Please include pictures and we will post them in our newsletter.

This is the amazing bread that Bobbie Cook, Jefferson County, brought to FOG on Friday. It’s
amazingly delicious and several people have asked for the recipe…….
