SCHOLARSHIP LISTINGS for 2014-2015 School Year
All High School Seniors should be looking at the websites of the colleges they
apply to. That is where you can get the information you need for the
scholarships the colleges offer to incoming freshmen. Every college has a
scholarship program. These scholarships range from a few hundred dollars
to a full tuition/books/room and board package. Some require an application
process, while others are automatic based on G.P.A. and ACT/SAT scores. If
you have any questions, contact the university/college or talk to your high
school counselor. Qualifying dates also vary. However, many colleges and
universities require that a student applies by November 1st to be considered.
Students: Please look over these opportunities carefully. I do check the website and give it a quick
once over, but that does not mean every opportunity is a good one. NEVER give out your social
security number. Do not pay for the right to apply for a scholarship. Scams look good, that’s why
they work. If you have any concerns, share them with a counselor immediately.
Note the deadlines on these scholarships. I am adding the newest scholarship opportunities to the
beginning of this document, and dropping scholarships as the deadlines pass. A hard copy is
produced about once monthly and is available in the office. For the most recent additions to this
list, refer to this link regularly. *a scholarship that several past SSC students have been awarded

AAA Michigan School Safety Patrol
Scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded to four graduating seniors attending a Michigan public,
private or charter high school. Students must show documented proof of AAA Michigan
School Safety Patrol participation in elementary or middle school, good academic standing
and a strong record of involvement in the community and/or extra-curricular activities.
A personal letter of introduction must be included describing community and extra-curricular
activities and what being a Safety Patroller meant to you.
If you feel you qualify, see Mrs. Proulx for an application. Give the application to Mrs. Proulx
when it is completed. Only one per school can be submitted. Deadline for an SSC student’s
application to be considered is April 15, 2015.
***FYI: Safety Patrol was not offered at the Elementary schools when this senior class was
attending. However, we may have transfer students that qualify.

“Exploring Oil and Natural Gas through Education”
As representatives of the oil and natural gas industry in Michigan, we would like to bring to your attention
a scholarship offered by the Michigan Oil & Gas Producers Education Foundation (MOGPEF).
Qualified applicants must have been accepted for enrollment at a Michigan university or community
college, have a minimum 3.0 GPA (computed on a 4.0 scale), and demonstrate financial need. Qualified
applicants must also be pursuing a degree in a field of study, which will allow them to obtain full time
employment in the crude oil and natural gas industry. There will be scholarships with a minimum of
$500 to be paid directly to the university or college where the applicant is enrolled.
Please find enclosed an application for the scholarship (also available at www.mogpef.org). We hope you
will forward this opportunity to all students who qualify. Please note deadline of April 2, 2015.
Elks National Foundation
This year the Elks will award almost $3.74 million in college scholarships through its
three scholarship programs.
*Two $50,000 first place scholarships – ($12,500 per year).
*Two $40,000 second place scholarships – ($10,000 per year).
*Two $30,000 third place Jack London scholarships – ($75,000 per year).
*Fourteen $20,000 fourth place scholarships – ($5,000 per year).
*480 - $4,000 Runners-up Awards – ($1,000 per year).
*In the National level awards, the Michigan Elks Association will award $4,000 runnersup scholarships to 17 high school seniors.
Applicants must download the 2014-2015 scholarship application form from the Elks
website at http://www.elks.org/enf/scholars/mvs.cfm and complete it electronically; they
will not be able to save it there but need to print it for submittal. A significant component
of the scoring system is based on the overall professional appearance of the
application.
While the Elks recognize that our application is lengthy and more detailed than other
scholarship competitions, the size of the awards merits the time required to complete
the application. Follow the very specific instructions so that your application is not
discarded. One of the most critical details is that the application must be in a 3-hole
paper folder with inside pockets and clasps.
Applications must be completed and returned to the Bay City Lodge #88 on or
before December 5, 2014. Any received after this date will be automatically
disqualified.
Applications may be mailed or dropped off in person to the Bay City Lodge at the
address shown below. Lodge hours are Monday thru Friday from 9 am to 3 pm. Friday,
December 5th only, the lodge will be open until 6pm.

NFIB Young Entrepreneur Award
If you are a young entrepreneur, this scholarship may be for you. If you are a
graduating high school senior who operates your own small business, you may be
eligible for this award. Visit www.NFIB.com/YEA for more information. Apply online
between October 1 and December 18, 2014.
JACK KENT COOKE FOUNDATION
This scholarship program is available to high-achieving high school seniors with
financial need who wish to attend the nation’s best 4-year colleges and universities.
*Minimum criteria: plan to graduate this spring, intend to enroll full time in an accredited
4-year college fall 2015, earn a cumulative unweighted gpa of 3.5 or above in high
school, ACT composite score of 26+ and demonstrate financial need.
*You could receive up to $40,000 per year for tuition, living expenses, books and other
required undergraduate institution fees.
*Pursue any are of study
*Have access to one-on-one advising about selecting a college, navigating financial aid,
transitioning to college and maximizing the college experience.

WACE
This scholarship program helps students who are interested in specific colleges that
offer a co-op type of learning experience. Kettering University is one of the sponsors of
this program. We have a former student from 2012 who received this scholarship and is
attending Kettering.

THE AMERICAN LEGION
The American Legion offers several opportunity to High School Students of all ages.
They have over $40,000 in College money to give away!

Location: Northwood University, Midland, MI
Participants in this program who are direct descendants of a
wartime era veteran have the opportunity to win a $1,000 scholarship and
up to a $20,000 scholarship from Samsung.
Girls State Program:
This program is also available, but no information was included in the
packet sent to me. Usually the information for this comes a little later.

Michigan State Police Student Trooper Program

Guy Wilson Scholarship
Deadline: January 12, 2015
Scholarship amount: $500
Criteria: GPA of 2.5 or above, financial need, parent’s or grandparent’s
honorable active war-time military service, goals and intentions. You must
be a son, daughter, grandchild or great-grandchild of a war-time veteran
planning to attend any Michigan accredited college or university.
William D. & Jewell Brewer Scholarship
Deadline: January 12, 2015
Scholarship amount: $500
Criteria: GPA of 2.5 or above, financial need, parent’s or grandparent’s
honorable active war-time military service, goals and intentions. You must
be a son, daughter, grandchild or great-grandchild of a war-time veteran
planning to attend any nationally accredited college or university.
Oratorical Contest Scholarships
2015 Program Deadlines:
Contestant must register with the Oratorical Zone Chairman by
Friday, January 2, 2015.
Zone Contests must be completed by January 26, 2015
Department contest will be on February 21, 2015
Criteria: 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade, not older than 20 years of age.
Students may compete in multiple years if their age qualifies.
Application, oratorical requirements and the pre-registration form are

Any student interested in Boys/Girls State and Student Trooper who need financial help
may apply for a $500 scholarship. Check out the website for this opportunity.

William G. Coyne Memorial Scholarship Program
Like any investment, financing higher education requires planning. To help make the process a
little easier and affordable, we've created the Credit Union ONE William G. Coyne Memorial Scholarship
Program.*
Complete the application, print it and mail it to the designated address on the form. Deadline May 1, 2015.
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:

school ending May 1, 2015**
Be a 2015 graduating high school senior
Be a member of a family that has belonged to Credit Union ONE for a minimum of 6 months (in good

Plan to enroll in, beginning in the fall of 2015, a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited
two- or four-year college or university, or accredited trade or vocational school.
Entrants who meet these requirements may be eligible to receive one of the Scholarships, based on the

America’s Farmers Grow AG Leaders
This is a new scholarship program. Students apply online at FFA.org/scholarships November 15, 2014
– February 1, 2015. Applicants do not have to be FFA members.
Criteria:
Be endorsed by three farmers. Farmers have until February 8, 2015 to endorse applications.
Reside in one of the 1,324 eligible counties. Check website at GrowAgLeaders.com
Be under the age of 23
Have a minimum of a 2.5 gpa on a 4.0 scale
Be pursuing or intend to pursue a degree related to agriculture from a two- or four-year program
and majoring or intending to major in one of 52 areas. See poster on bulletin board or go to website for a
list.

recipients will be announced in spring 2015.
Michigan Education Association
MEA Scholarship Award - $47,700 in the form of 45 scholarships was awarded last year. The
total amount for 2015 has not yet been determined.
Application for this scholarship can be found at www.mea.org/mea-scholarship The application
can be typed into, saved and then printed for signature to be mailed with the required
documentation.
Deadline: Friday, February 27, 2015. They must be received by MEA by this date. Postmark
does not constitute being received. Faxed or emailed applications are not allowed. Send it out

Eligibility Criteria:
Dependent of MEA member in good standing or MEA-Retired member
Graduate of a Michigan public high school or private high school that has an MEA
bargaining unit.
Will attend or is currently an undergraduate student of a Michigan public
community/junior college, four-year degree-granting institution or vocational training institution
that grants a degree, certification or license. There is a list of private institutions that are also
included.
Children of MEA officers, fund trustees and MEA staff are not eligible.
Selection Criteria:
Priority is given on the basis of academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, school
and community service and lower income households.
