TEMPORARY TEACHER of MATHEMATICS
(for the academic year 2015-16)
CRITERIA FOR APPOINTMENT
Essential
1. An Honours degree in Mathematics or a related subject as the appointments panel considers
appropriate (minimum classification 2.2).
2. Experience in a post-primary school of teaching Mathematics to GCSE Level (teaching practice
accepted).
3. Qualified teacher status.
Desirable
1. An Honours degree in Mathematics or a related subject as the appointments panel considers
appropriate (minimum classification 2.1).
2. A minimum of three months’ continuous experience teaching Mathematics to GCSE level in a
post-primary school within the last year.
3. A minimum of three months’ continuous experience teaching Mathematics to AS or A2 level at
least in a post-primary school within the last year.
4. Experience of delivering aspects of the Learning for Life and Work programme.
5. Willingness to contribute to the school’s extra-curricular programme.

MATHEMATICS IN HUNTERHOUSE COLLEGE

CCEA GCSE 2 Tier Modular Mathematics
CCEA Additional Mathematics
CCEA AS Mathematics
CCEA A2 Mathematics
Edexcel Further Mathematics at AS and A2 level is taught depending on demand.
The Mathematics department at Hunterhouse College is accommodated in three specialist teaching
rooms, all equipped with Interactive Whiteboards, and also uses several other general teaching
rooms. The department also has access the Learning Resource Centre (55 bookable computers and
library) and a computer room.
At Key Stage 3 all girls are taught the Revised Curriculum using the Essential Mathematics series of
textbooks as well as resources and activities from other sources. In Year 8 Mathematics is taught in
form groups, and in Years 9 and 10 classes are lightly streamed.
At Key Stage 4 girls are currently entered for a module at the end of Year 11 and a module at the end
of Year 12. They use the CCEA GCSE Maths textbooks. There are 5 GCSE classes which are streamed.
GCSE Further Mathematics is offered as an optional subject for more able girls.
At A level, girls follow a course involving Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics which is taught
by 2 teachers. Further Mathematics is also offered on demand and the combination of modules is
tailored to the strength of the girls choosing it.
