A Taste of Italy at Verde Bistro Cafe
I am pleased to announce that the Italian
Development Committee is issuing its first
E- Newsletter ‘Ponte d’affari, which will be a
regular feature of IDC. Through Ponte
d’affari, IDC aims at forming a bridge
between trade and industrial communities of
Italy and Pakistan and to promote cultural
and economic ties between the two nations.
Ponte d’affari will keep IDC members
informed about the recently held and
upcoming IDC activities & events organized

Inauguration of new Italian Development
Committee Office at Zamzama
The office of the Italian Development Committee for the
first time in six years has rented an independent office

premises at 5 Commercial Lane, Zamzama
Boulevard, Phase V, DHA Karachi. The Office offers a
board room spacious enough to host around fifty people
with a separate work area for IDC Secretariat. The IDC
office was inaugurated by Ms. Elena Claudia Di Vito, First

Secretary at the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad on 24
January, 2015. The inauguration Hi- Tea was sponsored
by Mr. Zahid Saeed, CEO Indus Pharma and Founder
member IDC.

Indus Valley

Chiodi Cianfarani at New IDC Office
Cav Dr. Tariq Ikram, President IDC hosted a business
breakfast in honor of His Excellency Mr. Adriano Chiodi
Cianfarani, Ambassador of Italy in Islamabad at the new
IDC office in Zamzama Karachi.
The President IDC welcomed His Excellency Mr. Cianfarani to
IDC office and informed that the new IDC office is well
equipped to host and organize various cultural activities at its
premises such as Italian language classes, Italian movie night
and Italian cooking classes etc.
The aim of business breakfast was to discuss the road map of
IDC with the Ambassador. It was agreed upon that road to
increased bilateral trade and investment between Italy and
Pakistan is through cultural exchanges between the two
countries. Other guests present were Mr. Giulio Iazeolla Acting
Consul and members of IDC.

IDC’s visit to Italy
Mr. Arif Qasim, Vice President of Italian Development
Committee visited Florence in February, 2015. Mr. Qasim had
meetings with Mr. Mario Curia at the Chamber of Commerce
of Florence, Mr. Alessandro Colombo at Istituto Europeo di
Design, Mr. Kristin Lanese at Dante Alighieri and Embassy
of Pakistan in Rome. The purpose of the visit was to open
the lines of communication of IDC with the Italian institutions to
peomote business between the two countries as well as
cultural exchanges. The Pakistani Embassy was very
instrumental in facilitationg the meetings.
His Excellency the Italian Ambassador Mr. Adriano
Chiodi Cianfarani and Ms. Elena Claudia Di Vito, the
First Secretary at the Embassy of Italy in Islamabad
along with Mr. Giulio Iazeolla, Vice Consul visited the
Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture.

The Chamber of Commerce of Florence is keen to collaborate
with IDC in sectors such as Leather, Fashion Home and
Tourism. The Chamber would like to host a delegation at their
offices wherby Pakistani entrepreneurs can give presentations
to members of Florence Chamber of Commerce.
Istituto Europeo di Design is eager to work with IDC to link
with similar Pakistani institutions. Also, they would like to
assist Pakistani leather, textile manufactururers in brand
development.

Memorandum of Understanding between

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between
IDC and NED

Engineering University on 7 February, 2015 at IDC
Karachi office.
The MoU was signed between Cav. Dr. Tariq Ikram,
President IDC and
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal Haque, Vice Chancellor
NED and Prof. Sarosh
Hashmat Lodi, Dean Civil Engineering and Architecture
Department NED.
First International Textile Conference awards held on 28
February, 2014. The session was attended by Mr. Hasan
Askari, founder member IDC and Secretary General IDC Mrs.
Amnah Gul Muqri. The conference was held parallel to Expo
Pak 2015 and was organized by NFEH.
Chairperson IDC- Lahore Chapter visits new IDC Office in
Karachi
The MoU signing occasion was graced by HE Mr.
Adriano Chiodi Cianfarani
Ambassador of Italy in Islamabad, Ms. Elena Claudia
Di Vito first secretary and Mr. Guilio Iazeolla, Vice
Consul and members of IDC.
The MoU between two institutions will pave the way to
initiate academic cooperation and collaboration
programs between Italy and Pakistan in the field of
Engineering.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
IDC would like to congratulate Ms. Fatima Zara Mallick, Director Trade and Culture, IDC and Mr.

managing cultural activities at IDC. The following events were organized by IDC.
Italian Language Classes at IDC
Italian Development Committee is proud to announce
that Italian Language Classes are being offered at IDC
office. Currently, two groups are being conducted at
the premises.
IDC offers Language Classes at ENI
The Italian Development Committee is pleased to inform all
that an in house language program is being offered to ENI
since January, 2015. The languages being offered are Italian,
English and Urdu (expats only).
Italian Cooking Classes at IDC
Italian Movie Nights at IDC
Another area to ptomote cultural activities is the Italian
Cooking Class at IDC. The first Cooking Class was

held on 28 February, 2015. The authentic Italian
culinary experience with Chef Elena di Rizzo was
highly appreciated. IDC through its Italian Cooking
Classes aims to provide the local community an
exclusive opportunity to learn about Italian cuisine.
A new fascination at IDC is the Italian Movie Night which aims to
promote Italian culture in Pakistan. The first movie played was ‘

La Vita e` Bella’ on 7 February, 2015, an Italian classic.
After the stunning success of the first movie night, the second
movie screened at IDC was ‘Roman Holiday an all time classic on

Guest of Honor at the event.
