The Semester System
NTHMC is affiliated to Pokhara University which follows
semester system in structuring the academic program and
evaluating the students. The teaching during a semester is
undertaken for 16 weeks; rest of the time of 26 weeks is utilized
in examinations and semester end breaks.
The biggest advantage of the semester system is the practice
of continuous evaluation and feedback to the students.
During each semester, there are three sets of examinations
administered by the college and the university. All the
examinations are final examinations in the sense that the
marks scored in them contribute to the final grade for the
semester. There is due credit given to the behavior in terms of
attendance, turnout, completion of assignments, cooperation
with fellow students and teachers and interaction in the
classroom. This system, in a nutshell, keeps students always on
their toes during the semester and make sure that the learning
is done for the life time and not only for the duration of the
final examinations. The reward of the system is two carefree
semester end breaks in each year to pursue other personal
interests.
Another remarkable feature of the semester system is award
of grades instead of raw marks to the students. The grades,
which are awarded from A to D, are relative in nature rather
than absolute against a maximum of 100. The philosophy
behind this system is to recognize the person who performs
the best in a group by awarding him a perfect grade of A
and subsequently awarding other grades to other students.
The grade point system is as follows:
S.No.
Grade
Honor Points
1.
A
4.0
2.
A-
3.7
3.
B+
3.3
4.
B

5.

9.

10.
D

It is acceptable to obtain a grade of D in one subject, but
in order to get the degree, the average of grades in all the
subjects has to be better than C or a grade point average of
2.0 or higher. If this is not achieved, the person is not qualified to
receive the degree in spite of passing all the individual subjects.

Alumni's Words ... 
I
was drawn to my College (Nepal Tourism and Hotel Management College),
for the combination of great educational opportunities in Campus and
the exciting life of my hometown just outside the gates. When I recall my
memories of my college days, it was a learning experience in every way with
friends and friendly teachers. I had an exciting college life and it would always
be cherished. Among all the amazing experiences of my college life, the
experience during my internship in Malaysia is the most cherished memory. That
particular opportunity boosted my confidence to believe in myself to take up a
challenge, grab the opportunity on hand and just move forward. It helped me
to take new projects in my life whether it would be to teach freshmen of NTHMC
or would it to be a Guest Relation Officer in Fulbari Resort Pokhara. Studying as
well as working in NTHMC piled up my ability to go abroad and be ready for a
greater challenge in life. Thus, right now, I am pursuing my MBA degree (General
management) in Southeast Missouri State University, Missouri, USA. I also work as
a Graduate Assistant in the International Office of Education and Services in the
University. Hotel management has broadened my career opportunities to work
as a hotelier or take management duties in other fields. I look forward to take
up new challenges in life getting influenced by the people and environment
surrounding me, motivating myself and trying as much as possible to carry a
positive attitude towards my studies, work and my life as a whole.
