The 4th International Symposium of the International Geosciences Programme Project 589 October 26 - November 1, 2015 Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand First Circular & Call for Papers Invitation & Aims The International Programme (IGCP) Project 589 has served as a platform for geosciences students and professionals to present their innovative research. The breadth and depth of the technical sessions are international in scope and span across multiple geosciences disciplines. The evolution of the Tethyan Ocean has long been investigated yet remains far from being fully understood. The IGCP 589 project is thus aimed to explore more constraints on the interpretation of the development of the Asian Tethyan Realm and to unite experienced and young professionals who have been working in related subjects. To illuminate the history of the Tethys, scientific approaches and techniques of different disciplines are to be employed, such as tectonics, paleogeography, paleontology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, structural geology, petrology, geochemistry, paleomagnetism, and geophysics. Continued investigation is the only way to reach more appropriate explanations and to gradually approach the truth. The 4th International Symposium of IGCP 589 will be held at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand on October 26 - November 1, 2015. The symposium will provide an opportunity for participants to present their recent work and discuss complicated problems related to the development of the Asian Tethyan Realm. In addition to technical sessions, the post-symposium excursion - geological history of Northern Thailand - presents a unique opportunity to examine geological structures closely related to the development of Tethys in Thailand. The 4th IGCP 589 symposium is undoubtedly the place to explore, discuss, and understand where our geosciences community is headed. www.igcp589bangkok.org 1 IGCP 589 Project Leaders Dr. Jin Xiaochi Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, China Dr. Katsumi Ueno Fukuoka University, Japan Dr. Graciano Yumul Jr. Department of Science and Technology, Philippines Dr. Pol Chaodumrong Department of Mineral Resources, Thailand More information, please visit http://igcp589.cags.ac.cn/ Symposium Organizing Committee Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand Chairman Dr. Thasinee Charoentitirat Organizing Committee Dr. Punya Charusiri Dr. Thanawat Jarupongsakul Dr. Sombat Yumuang Dr. Montri Choowong Dr. Chakkaphan Sutthirat Dr. Thanop Thitimakorn Dr. Srilert Chotpantara Dr. Pitsanupong Kanjanapayont Dr. Santi Pailoplee Dr. Vichai Chutakositkanon Dr. Kruawun Jankaew Dr. Akkaneewut Chabangborn Dr. Waruntorn Kanitpanyacharoen Dr. Sumet Phantuwongraj Dr. Abhisit Salam Dr. Sukonmeth Jitmahantakul Dr. Sakonwan Chawchai For any inquiries, please contact: Dr. Waruntorn Kanitpanyacharoen Email: [email protected] Tel: (+66)2-218-5442 Fax: (+66)2-218-5464 More information, please visit http://www.igcp589bangkok.org www.igcp589bangkok.org 2 Important Dates and Venues Technical sessions, both poster and oral presentations, will be held at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.
