POLIO HAS BEEN 99% ERADICATED LEAVING ONLY AFGHANISTAN, PAKISTAN & NIGERIA WHERE POLIO STILL ENDEMIC. (IIMSAM-‐Photo)) IIMSAM`s Secretary-‐General: REMIGIO MARADONA (Victim of Polio-‐Physically-‐Challenged Person since the age of two) The following statement was issued today for IIMSAM'S-‐ Secretary-‐ General Remigio Maradona: by the Intergovernmental Institution of the use of Micro-‐algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition (IIMSAM). An Inter-‐ Governmental Observer to the United Nations Economic and Social Council at United Nations Headquarters in NYC. From Media Outlets (UAE) 21st April 2015: " The UAE has immunised millions of Pakistani children with 44 million polio vaccines in the first 3 months of 2015 as part of the Emirates Polio Campaign. The UAE Pakistani Assistance Programme (UAE-‐PAP), launched under directives from President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on an initiative by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Arm Forces, said a total of 15,278,016 polio vaccine doses were given to Pakistani children under five years old in March in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh and the tribal provinces. The second phase of the campaign will target 17 million children in 53 areas with about 51 million vaccination doses under the slogan' A Healthy and Bright Future for All'. UNICEF:

Secretary-‐General Remigio Maradona Commented: “Polio is very familiar to me since the age of two when it afflicted my upper extremities leaving me a physically challenged person for the rest of my life...its great to see the end game for this dreadful disease...”.the UAE Initiative for global polio eradication 2013-‐2018 (The Plan) was developed to capitalize on this new opportunity to end all polio disease... “It accounts for the parallel pursuit of wild poliovirus eradication and cVDPV elimination, while planning for the backbone of the polio international effort particularly in the regions of Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria where polio still remains endemic”...” The end of polio will allow for the delivering of other health services to the world’s most vulnerable children.” ”The massive financial resources that have been provided by the UAE in support of a child health initiative to eradicate polio worldwide is to be commended...“In my humble opinion and as a victim of polio this “Par Excellance Extraordinaire Humanitarian goodwill gesture on behalf of the U.A.E by: HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan along with HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, ” is worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize.” BRIEF BACGROUND ON POLIO ERRADICATION WITH UAE PLAYING A CATALYST ROLE: The Vaccine Summit, which took place on April 24-‐25, 2013 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Under the Patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Bill Gates, co-‐
chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and in partnership with the United Nations, was organised in order to continue momentum in the Decade of Vaccines, a vision and commitment to reach all children with the vaccines they need. The summit highlighted the role that vaccines and immunization systems play in achieving global child health and development goals. Individuals and institutions with innovative approaches and demonstrated commitment across a broad spectrum of the vaccine enterprise gathered to renew their commitment to children and immunizations. One of the most incredible examples of the power vaccines have to change the world is how close we are to declaring the world polio-‐free. India is now polio-‐free, outbreaks in previously polio-‐free countries have been stopped, and the number of polio cases in the world has dropped dramatically, leaving the fewest number of cases in the fewest districts in the fewest countries. “When we succeed in saving lives and supporting countries through the
MDGs, we give credibility and momentum to the post-2015 process,”
