“Let’s Work to Reduce Crimes of Convenience”
This month’s article is meant to address a growing
criminal trend in the Tampa area. Many of us moved to
Arbor Greene (AG) for the added security that our gates
and guards afford; however, they can’t prevent all crime.
A Crime of Convenience occurs when we make it easier,
or tempting, for criminals to commit thefts. We increase
the chances of becoming victims of a Crime of
Convenience when we leave valuables unattended,
vehicles or homes unlocked, garage doors open, and
exterior lights off at night. Unfortunately, our gates
might lull some of us into a false sense of security,
making it easier for thieves to commit Crimes of
Convenience in AG. Our gate security can prevent a
large amount of crime, but it’s up to all of us together to
try and prevent the rest.
Opening Memorial Day Weekend
Snack Shack will be open daily from
10am-8pm
A great way to celebrate the kick off of
Summer fun!
A Crime of Convenience is one of the quickest and
easiest ways for thieves to steal our valuables. Many
criminals often have little to do with their time but take
advantage of an opportunity to commit a crime. When
we leave our vehicles or homes unlocked, or valuables
unattended, we may be creating that opportunity. Some
basic security tips to help prevent these crimes are to
lock all doors, windows, lanai doors, and fence gates;
shut garage doors; turn on front and rear home lights
during the hours of darkness; and turn on an alarm
system if you have one. Don’t forget to inventory and
photograph your valuables and store that information in
a secure location. Make sure to secure your home or
vehicle while you are away even if it is for a short period
of time.
If you would like more details about the topic above or
security tips and other relevant data from the Tampa
Police Department (TPD), please email us at
[email protected]. Joining the email
group does not obligate you to be involved in any NWA
activity, but should help you and your family to be better
informed and more secure. The AG NWA is an allvolunteer run program overseen by the TPD. Thank you
for your continued help in keeping AG one of the nicest
and safest communities in New Tampa.
Goodies for sale will include: soft drinks, water,
Gatorade, chips, candy, ice cream, and
pool/tennis merchandise.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our Arbor Greene Mothers!
On March 24th the Home Owners Association held our annual membership meeting. A big thank you goes out to all the residents who
attended! In that meeting we seated three residents to the board. Join me in welcoming our new board members Alex Levy and Betty
Jackson and our returning board member and Vice President Paul Boucher. Each will be serving a two year term on the board. I look forward
to the contributions each of you will bring to the table continuing to make our community one of the best in Tampa. I would also like to thank
our departing board and DRB members, Gene Fauquier and Tricia Argabrite, for their service and contributions to the board. I wish you the
best in your future endeavors.
The HOA board would like to congratulate the Demetrides family from Heather Sound as the recipient of the Yard of the Quarter award for the
first quarter of 2015. We thank you and appreciate all the hard work you put into keeping your yard beautiful!
Yard of the quarter is just one of the ways the HOA recognizes our residents who exemplify upholding our covenants. I can’t stress enough
the importance of complying with our covenants. Now that summer is here we can get outside and work on the exterior of our homes. This
includes maintaining your yards, trimming your trees, replacing mulch, pressure washing your driveways, painting your house (a DRB
application is needed) and painting or replacing your mailboxes. If you have plans on replacing any landscaping please ensure that you follow
the DRB guidelines. If you have any questions as to what you should do please don’t hesitate to contact our property manager, Mark Eary at
Greenacre Properties, 813-600-1100 ext. 163. Better to be safe than sorry.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District has offered
these helpful tips for having a Florida -friendly yard.
Tip #3 Fertilize Appropriately
Tip #4
Mulch
Who likes to
weed?
Keeping
mulch on
your plant
beds helps control weeds, retain soil moisture and reduce
erosion and stormwater runoff. Follow these tips when
mulching:
Cut down on mowing by replacing grass with mulch in
areas that are shaded or difficult to mow.
Keep the level of mulch up to 2–3 inches by
applying it once or twice a year.
 Keep mulch 2 inches from the base of plants to avoid
disease.
 Let fallen tree leaves stay under a tree to create selfmulching areas.
 Look for cypress mulch that is not harvested from
Florida’s wetlands.
 Choose recycled mulch or alternatives like

When too much fertilizer is applied to landscapes, it
seeps past the root zone of the grass, plants or trees and
into the aquifer or runs off into water bodies. Plants,
animals and people depend on clean water for survival.
Follow these tips to help prevent water pollution:
Fertilize lawns, trees and plants only to maintain
health. Don’t exceed recommended amounts. Fertilizer
will not help poor growth caused by too much shade,
disease or pests.
 Use slow-release fertilizers that make nutrients
available to plants for a longer time. They are kinder to
the environment and are usually more cost-effective.
 Use iron instead of nitrogen if you want to green-up
your lawn.
melaleuca, leaves, pine needles or bark.

Hold off on fertilizing if a heavy rain is expected,
and don’t overirrigate after applying.
 Follow the application directions on the fertilizer
package.
 Avoid weed and feed products.
