Director General's Message
“ Law and order exist
for the purpose of
establishing justice ”
- Martin Luther King Jr.
This era of globalization and economic
liberalization has called for a need for a
paradigm shift in the field of legal
education, in tandem with the global
scenario. However, this shift from mere
theory towards a more practiceoriented clinical curriculum, rather than
being competing is one that
complements. With the spate of
multinational companies and foreign
law firms in India, this paradigm shift
has become more pronounced.
In line with the two main priorities for
today's legal education i.e. quality and
employability, Institute of Law, Nirma
University (ILNU) endeavors to
prepare outstanding and ethical legal
professionals and statesmen through its
unique justice-based curriculum, novel
initiatives in pedagogy, and additional
professional training and skills
development courses. ILNU recognizes
that the curriculum not only has to meet
with the industry standards and
06
requirements but also has to be
futuristic enough to surpass
contemporary convention. With this
vision in mind, ILNU is committed to
excellence in the field of reinventing
legal education and through the
knowledge of law advance human
dignity, social welfare and justice.
At Institute of Law, Nirma University,
we are proud that our young law
students are shaped in line with the
industry and professional requirements.
I invite you to enroll at ILNU and can
assure you that as an ILNU student, you
will gain an excellent opportunity to
develop your potential fully.
I wish all potential applicants success
in their endeavors.
Dr. Anup K Singh
Director General
Nirma University
From the Director’s Desk
“A lawyer today is a policy
planner, business advisor,
m e d i a t o r, n e g o t i a t o r,
lobbyist, an effective
communicator and also a
reformer. With the field
becoming so vibrant and
volatile, choice of law as a
profession has seen, over
the years, a massive
improvement.
”
Welcome to the portal of the Institute of Law,
Nirma University (ILNU). ILNU is looking
at bringing about a paradigm shift in the
delivery of legal education in the country. It
aims to add new dimensions in legal education
that would incorporate international standards
thereby providing an environment which
would enhance freedom and innovation in the
dynamic pursuit of thoughts and civil society
engagement to advance the law of the land.
Institute of Law has taken three major
initiatives for addressing the current trends
and challenges of present legal system.
Firstly, we endeavour to educate tomorrow's
lawyer with a curriculum that helps students
develop a set of professional capacities and
cultural competencies required of lawyers in
today's global society.
Secondly, we are committed to enhance the
impact of our intellectual activities by
bringing our faculties scholarship to
practitioners and policymakers.
Thirdly, we strive to develop a system that
aligns our teaching scholarship and extension
activities for advancement of social welfare,
justice and dignity of individual in society.
There is a paradigm-shift in the role of legal
professional because of increasing
globalization, faster growth of the Indian
economy and advancement in technology,
which has . And so the curriculum at the Institute
of Law is novel, innovative and designed to
keep students equipped and updated with the
skills needed in the profession. A separate
enrichment course and professional training
module runs parallel with the course curriculum
right from the first year. This enables the
students to develop multi-disciplinary approach
to law in the sense that law and other behavioral
sciences are seen to be inter-related and exist in
mutually beneficial interaction.
With the help of well qualified in-house faculty
and visiting experts, we, at the Institute, strive
hard to create an excellent teaching learning
environment so that the students will be able to
unfold their potential to the fullest.
ILNU is committed to groom the students
admitted in the Institute as excellent, brilliant
and confident lawyers and legal professional to
face the challenges which lie ahead of them in
their lives.

Outcome Base Education Approach
ILNU focuses on students learning following outcome base education approach (OBE). Institute of

constructing knowledge rather than by receiving knowledge from others. This constructivist approach
requires new techniques for assessing students' learning that includes assessment as an integral part of
teaching in order to better understand what students have learnt during the process. Through the formative
and summative assessment, we are ensuring that required knowledge and skill for the profession are learnt
by the students following the Outcome Base Education principles. So with this OBE approach, clarity is
given regarding the subject-matter that students are required to learn, curriculum is organized and finally
instructions and assessment is designed to ensure that learning ultimately happens.
Every course involves a proper experiential learning mechanism which facilitates active learning.
Advanced and slow learners are closely identified for each course and faculty members use a combination
of various delivery mechanisms for such students. In order to bring clarity in its teaching learning
