Page has had a strong social conscience since her early years– as a child she asked her friends to donate to a philanthropic cause in lieu of birthday presents. In high school, Page volunteered with a variety of programs that support juvenile offenders using a Restorative Justice approach. She now runs the Restorative Learning Program at The REAL School–a public/alternative middle school and high school that serves students in southern Maine whose needs have not been met in traditional school settings. She is also a board member and program facilitator for the teen parenting program of Seeds of Independence and a student at USM’s Educational Leadership program. She is incredibly passionate about working with Maine’s most under-resourced children. More than a decade after graduating from Merriconeag’s 8th grade, Page still considers some of her Merriconeag classmates to be her closest friends. 5 6 Auction Rules Bidding Procedure All sales are final. Please read specifications and limitations carefully. Items cannot be returned or exchanged. By his or her purchase, the buyer waives any claims for liability against Merriconeag Waldorf School or the donor of the property that may result from the utilization of property or services sold. Unless otherwise specified, all auction services must be used by April 6th, 2015. It is the responsibility of the bidder to coordinate with the donor to redeem services purchased at the auction. Bidding on both the Silent Auction and Speed Fundraiser must be done with a bid number received when you register at the front table. You can also use your bid number to purchase raffle tickets. The Silent Auction features a wide range of items and services. Bid sheets are displayed adjacent to each item. Bidding on Silent Auction items will be open from 5:00–7:20 with staggered closings until 7:50. Bid as many times as you wish, however, bids must be in the increments as specified on the bid sheet. You do not have to be present to win a silent auction or raffle item. If you leave before the end of the auction and you have a winning bid, you will be notified. You must arrange for payment within one week of being notified or the next bidder may be entitled to the item. The Speed Fundrasier will begin around 8:20, immediately followed by the Variety Show. In the Speed Funraiser, persons who wish to contribute a tax-deductible gift supporting tiered tuition, do so by holding up their bid card and waiting to be recognized by the spotters. It is a speedy reverse auction–you start with the top offer of $10,000 and work down to $25, with the hope that everyone can contribute at some level. There are no gimmicks, no gifts, no stuff–you choose to give a donation that is fully tax-deductible as a way to show your support for all of the families who would otherwise not be able to afford this education. Table Arrangement 8Merri-Happenings 1 Food & Dining closes at 7:50 simply sign upno bidding required closes at 7:20 5 Home & Garden closes at 7:40 2Kids closes at 7:25 & 3 Clothing Accessories closes at 7:30 4Getaways & Garden 6 Home and Lessons closes at 7:45 & Garden 7 Home and Services closes at 7:45 closes at 7:35 Class Baskets are located on the Silent Auction tables. 7 8 Accounting The winning bidder will be recorded along with the amount of the bid. This record will constitute the bidder’s agreement to pay that amount. Do not allow anyone else to use your bid number. Full payment is due on auction night and can be made by cash, a check made out to Merriconeag Waldorf School, or credit card (MasterCard or Visa). Clerks will be on hand to accept payment beginning at 9:00 pm. All auction items must be removed from the premises at the close of the auction. The Auction Committee will not be responsible for items left after the auction. The IRS requires that we notify you that only the difference between the fair market value of a silent auction item and the price paid by the purchaser may be taken as a tax deduction. Fair market value is based either on the actual cost incurred by the donor or a reasonable estimate of actual costs and values. Donations toward the Speed Fundraiser are fully tax-deductible, as no goods or services are exchanged for this gift. 25/75 cash raffle Winner keeps 25% of the total cash raffle proceeds; remaining 75% goes directly to Merriconeag’s Tiered Tuition fund. The total will be continually updated the night of the auction—as it goes up, so does the amount that the winner gets to keep! Last year the lucky winner took home over $2,000! Tickets cost $25 each or 5 for $100. You can use your bidder number (or cash) to purchase cash raffle tickets. Available up until the drawing at 8:30. GOOD LUCK! 9 10 Merriconeag Waldorf School Founded in 1984, Merriconeag Waldorf School is the largest Waldorf school in Maine. We serve 240 students in early childhood through grade 12, with families coming from over 20 surrounding towns. The Early Childhood program and Grades 1–8 are situated on 80 acres off the Desert Road in Freeport. This campus includes five state-of-the-art buildings: an Early Childhood Center, two classroom buildings housing Grades 1–8, the Community Hall and the Handcraft Building. Fields and woods provide ample space for play, nature study, gardening, camping, hiking and cross-country skiing. The High School is located 15 minutes away, at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester. Pineland Farms is an impressive campus set in a beautiful rural landscape. An ideal classroom building, a 3,000-acre working farm, and diverse recreational opportunities make Pineland well suited to the Waldorf high school curriculum. While independent, the school is part of a worldwide Waldorf school movement that began in Europe over eighty years ago and now encompasses more than 1,000 schools and 1,600 early childhood programs on five continents. Merriconeag is an accredited member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Waldorf schools provide strong academic course work, complemented by art, music, drama, handcrafts, rhythmic games and activities, gardening, woodworking, physical education, expressive movement and experience in nature. Merriconeag Waldorf School seeks to develop a diverse community and welcomes families of all ethnic, social, economic and religious backgrounds. Through tiered tuition, the school strives to make Waldorf education available to all families who desire it for their children. Over 40% percent of our families participate in our successful tiered tuition program. The auction proceeds directly benefit tiered tuition, making it possible for these families to attend Merriconeag. 11 12 event listing Don’t be shy, be a part of the All of these events are open to the public.
