Local racers run wild
at Bronte Harbour 5K
It was a pair of Oakville runners
speeding to the men’s and women’s
overall tides Saturday at the Bronte
Harbour Twilight five-kilometre road
race.
Local racer Kip Sigsworth ran the
course in 16:38 to win the men’s title,
while Christie Perry’s time of 19:11 was
good enough enough to win the
women’s tide.
, Toronto’s Predrag M ladenovic
(16:42) and Milton’s Rene Vanandel
(16:56) finished second and third
respectively in the men’s category.
M ississauga’s Kerry Houlding
(19:17) and Oakville’s Leah Weagant
(20:23) finished two-three respectively
in the women’s category.
It was the second year of the race,
sponsored in part by The Running
Company, that aims to raise money for
Rebounders of Canada. Rebounders is
an organization that provides support
for survivors of childhood cancer.
The total money raised by this year’s
event isn’t yet known, however, race
committee m anager and Running
Company manager Greg McKinnon
said they’ll likely exceed last year’s
total of about $10,000.
“We hope to make this one of the
largest evening events of its kind in
Halton and it looks certainly looks like
we are well on our way,” he said.
This year, 208 racers entered the
event in 10 categories.
Complete results are available at The
Running Company, 118 Thomas St.
