Dr. Ajay Kate elected as new President of IMA, Nagpur.
In the recently held elections, the new team of office bearers of Indian Medical
Association, Nagpur Branch for the year 2015-16 elected unanimously are - Dr. Ajay
Kate well known Surgeon of the city was elected as President, Dr. Avinash Wase
(Pathologist) President Elect., Dr. Subhash Dhawale (Peadiatrician) and Dr. Ashish
Disawal (ENT Surgeon) as Vice Presidents, Dr. Sarita Ugemuge (Microbiologist) Hon.
Secretary, Dr. R.J. Malani (Occupational Health and Family Physician) Hon. Treasurer,
Dr. Abhijeet Ambhaikar (Family Physician) and Dr. Alka Mukherjee (Obstetrician &
Gynaecologist) as Hon. Jt. Secretaries.
Dr. Sanjay Deshpande, President and Dr. Kush Jhunjhunwala Hon. Secretary,

WHO Day - CME on Food Safety

Indian Medical Association, Nagpur organized a CME on “FOOD
SAFETY”, at IMA’s J.R. Shaw Hall, North Ambazari Road, Nagpur as per
WHO theme for this year with a motto “FOOD SAFETY”.
Dr. Mohan Khamgaonkar spoke on “Epidemiology of food borne”, Dr.
Sarita Ugemuge spoke on “Lab diagnosis of food borne Illness”, Dr.
Abhijeet Deshmukh spoke on “Management of Food borne diseases”
and Mr. Prabodh Halde enlightened on “Current updates on food
safety”.
Dr. Alka Mukherjee, Hon. Jt. Secretary conducted the CME very smoothly.
Dr. S. S. Desai, Dy. Commissioner, FDA was the Chief Guest. He told
about various measures taken for Food safety. He also informed
about various successful cases filed by FDA against Food
manufacturers.

Sonologists Strike
In response to the call given by the IMA Head Quarters the
Sonology Clinic all over the Nagpur remained closed against the
draconian PCPNDT Act. We all sonologists are against the sex
determination and over a period of time have supported the
cause, but during the recent 2-3 years the implementation of the act
has been as per the whims and fancies of the government authorities.
For simple clerical mistakes in filling the Form ‘F’, keeping any one of
the column blank by oversight or unsigned form, the authorities started
sealing the machines and registering criminal offence, which has got no
relation to actual sex determination. The Act was designed to curb sex
determination, however the authorities seem to be more interested in
checking Form “F” rather than catching the real culprits. Our demand is
there should be graded punishment for clerical mistakes like warning
and monitory fine on repeated mistakes. There should not be any
sealing of machines and no suspension of Maharashtra Medical Council
Registration.
As sex determination is social evil the patient and their relative
should also be held equally responsible, and we demand strongest
punishment to them.

Installation Ceremony
The New team of office bearers of Indian Medical Association, Nagpur
Branch was installed at the hands of Chief Guest Shri. Nitinji Gadkari,
Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport, Highways & Shipping, Govt. of India.
Dr. Ranjit Patil Hon’ble Minister of State for Home, Dr. Krishna Parate,
Chairman National Professional Protection Scheme were the Guests of
Honour. Dr. T. C. Rathod, President, Indian Medical Association
Maharashtra State was the Special Guest.
The installation ceremony of IMA, Nagpur was held at 5.30pm on Sunday
the 10th May 2015 at IMA’s J.R. Shaw Auditorium, North Ambazari Road,
Nagpur. Dr. Ajay Kate well known Surgeon was installed as President &
Dr. Sarita Ugemuge, noted Microbiologist was installed as Hon. Secretary
for the year 2015-16.
The other office bearers installed were Dr Avinash Wase as President
Elect, Dr. Subhash Dhawale & Dr Ashish Disawal as Vice- Presidents,
Dr R. J. Malani as Hon. Treasurer , Dr Abhijeet Ambhaikar & Dr Alka
Mukherjee as Hon. Joint Secretaries. Nagpur IMA.

Vitamin D Deficiency in association with USV

Indian Medical Association, Nagpur in association with USV organized a CME
on 20th May 2015 on “Vitamin D Deficiency” as directed by IMA HQ , New Delhi
under the theme of “IMA RISE & SHINE”, at IMA’s J.R. Shaw Hall, North
Ambazari Road, Nagpur.
Dr. Sunil Ambulkar, well-known Endocrinologist of the city enlighten on
“Vitamin D deficiency in India and Skeletal effects of Vitamin D” and Dr.
Girish Parmar, Mumbai, Consultant Endocrinologist briefed about “NonSkeletal effects of Vitamin D and strategies to prevent and treat Vitamin D
deficiencies”.
The CME was ended by the question answer session.

Swachha Bharat Swastha Bharat Abhiyan
As a part of Swachha Bharat Abhiyan of Shri. Narendra Modi, Hon’ble
Prime Minister of India IMA, Nagpur Branch supported National Clean India
Movement by ALKEM Chronics, which took place across 135 cities
throughout India at the same time on Saturday the 23rd May 2015.
Members gathered in front of IMA, North Ambazari Road and participated
in cleanliness drive.

Team IMA won T-20 Summer Cricket Match
Dr. Ajay Kate, President and Dr. Sarita Ugemuge, Hon. Secretary, IMA, Nagpur branch handing over the
winner’s trophy to IMA 11 Team.
Unique T-20 match played recently between IMA XI V/s IMA Wards won by IMA XI, played at
Reshimbag ground.
Dr. Ajay Kate, President IMA inaugurated the match by doing toss. IMA wards XI lead by
Tejas Deotale won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 121 runs in stipulated 20
over’s. IMA XI lead by Dr. Kamlakar Powar reached the target in 13.5 overs by sparing
wickets. Dr. Prashant Rathi scored 16 runs and Dr. Prashant Parate scored 17 runs. Dr. Ajay
Kate, President IMA in presence of Dr. Sarita Ugemuge, Hon. Secretary, IMA. Dr. Alka
Mukherjee, Jt. Secretary, IMA Dr. R. J. Malani, Hon. Treasurer distributed the prizes.
Dr. Prashant Parate who scored rapid 17 runs bowled and fielded brilliantly declared man of
the match. Sagar Gandhi, who scored 34 runs in just 16 balls declared best batsman. Tejas
Deotale, who bowled brilliantly and took 3 wickets given best bowlers award, Dr. Vikram Alsi
got best wicketkeeper award. Dr. Mrs. Agrawal won best audience award. Dr. Vijay
Upadhyaya by his lavish language entertained all by doing commentary. Mr. Bipin and Mr.
Sardar were Umpires. Mr. Arab kept the scoring updated.
Dr. Arjune, Dr. Wase, Dr Bhede, Dr. Sandip Agrawal of IMA were prominently present. Mr.
Raju Kaore, Mr. Yogesh, Mr. D. Khamele, Mr. Prashant Bhamburkar worked hard for the
success of the match. Match was followed by lavish breakfast.
