Director’s Message
I am pleased to share with you the newsletter of the initial quarter of 2015, wherein you will find details on
innovative practices, events and interesting ways in which IMED has been furthering its vision of making a
change through academia.
On campus, our efforts have culminated into providing excellent career opportunities to students of MBA and
MCA. More than 130 companies have participated in the placement drive of IMED giving 14 lac highest
package. We expect more than 200 companies by the end of May 2015. The Alumni meet held in January was a
huge success as alumni right from 1990’s both from India and abroad participated and shared their
experiences reiterating their faith in IMED as a path to their current achievements. The networking session
between the alumni and students benefited the latter tremendously.
Students had their talent exhibited through the conduct of ‘Expressions’- an International cultural technical
and management fest that attracted students from more than 50 colleges and Universities . It was a power
packed event.
To expose students to practical aspects of Management many events have been conducted such as ,HR meet,
Seminars in functional domains, entrepreneurial meet, tech based competitions( C Googly) etc. As always,
IMED will continually strive to provide opportunities of learning and growth to its students.

SAHYOG Alumni Meet 2015
The Alumni Meet-Sahyog was organized on 17th
January 2015 for all the ex students of IMED right
from 1988-1990 batch. The meet was conducted
in two phases. The afternoon session was for the
star alumni who were into their silver jubilee year.
They celebrated this landmark by cutting the cake
and screening their batch photographs in the
IMED conference hall. After interacting with one
another, a lunch was hosted for the star alumni by
IMED. Most of them had come across PAN India
and from foreign lands like Dubai and Canada.
Thereafter the star alumni meet was conducted at
the Abhijeetdada Kadam Auditorium from 1.00
pm to 4.00 pm, whereas the evening session was
arranged for all the alumni at Sharao Lawns from
6.30 pm onwards.

‘SAHYOG’ Alumni Meet
Afternoon session:
The anchors for the day gave a warm welcome to all the
Alumni, faculties and students present for the event
and invited the Director, Dr Sachin Vernekar for a
welcome speech. Honorable Director welcomed all on
behalf of IMED, briefed the gathering about the various
achievements of IMED and placement activities. He
discussed about the newly constituted Alumni Body.

The students of IMED welcomed the gathering through
a musical performance on guitar which all of them
enjoyed. The song set the mood for the afternoon.
This was followed by felicitation of all the star alumni
with a memento beginning with the President of the
Alumni body – Dr Ujjal Bhattacharjee – Director-HR
from GKN Sinter Metals at the hands of Director, Dr
Sachin Vernekar. This was followed by felicitation of
Vice President - Mr Vaibhav Deshmuh –Head-HR in
Venkys, Mr Anil Singh and entrepreneur from
Ahmedabad, Secretary - Mr Parmanand Upadhaya –IT
Consultant in Fujitsu.
Almost 60 alumni were felicitated with a memento
during the session. Mr Anil Singh shared his thoughts
with his batch mates saying IMED is “I am emotionally
devoted”. Mr Singh invited many of his friends namely
Mr Sudeep Bhattacharya, Mr Govind Patel , Mr Chand
Basha, Mr Soloman Thomas and Ms Anu on the dais to
express their feelings on the occasion of their silver
jubilee celebration.

Head-HR in Reliance Industries Limited spoke on the
importance skill sets for Management students.

This was followed by an open forum where in the
students of IMED asked few questions to the alumni.
Mr M M Pole, Head-CRC proposed the vote of thanks to

Evening Session:
The student anchors opened the event by welcoming
the guests. Thereafter, Dr Sachin Vernekar, Director
“It is good to have an end to journey toward; but it is the journey that matters, in the end.” ? Ernest Hemingway
National Seminar “Contribution of HR to Organizational Excellence”
gave his welcome address. He stressed on the progress
that IMED has made in the recent times and promised
the alumni that all possible support will be given for
furthering the cause of alumni association. The
cultural program kick started by beautiful solo songs
by IMED students. This was followed by mesmerizing
dance performance of IMED girl students. Almost 150
alumni attended the Alumni Meet during both the
sessions.

HR meet organized by NHRD and IMED
HR meet organized by NHRD and IMED on “Career
Opportunities in HR”.The meet was held on 6th Feb
2015 at the Abhijit Dada Kadam Auditorium ,Bharati
Vidyapeeth Educational Complex , Erandawane, Pune
38 from 2.30 pm to 6.30 pm. More than 120 delegates
from NHRD which included corporate managers,
faculty members from various management institutes
and about 500 management students attended the
meet. Mr. Sadshib Padhee (Vice president HR,
Kirloskar Pneumatic Company Ltd ,Ms. Soumi
Alphons (Program Manager, SAS R&D India),Mr.
Samar Kamulkar (Sr. HR manager, Royal
Caribbean International Miami, Florida),Mr.
Sanjeev Fadnavis (President, Nitor Infotech and
Commander Rajendra Pawar( Member NHRD)
were the main speakers for the event.
The main theme of the seminar were
1) Is HR the Lesser cousin of Finance and Marketing?
2) Is HR only for Women?
A Panel discussion and a open house forum was also
conducted at the end. Mr Aman Rajbali (Member
NHRD) and Rajendra Pawar (Member NHRD) co
ordinate the panel discussion. The event was
sponsored by IMED.
NATIONAL SEMINAR ON “CONTRIBUTION OF HR
TO ORGANIZATIONAL EXCELLENCE”
HR Forum organized a National Seminar on
“Contribution of HR to Organizational Excellence” , on
28th February, 2015 under the sheer guidance of Prof.
Makarand Pole , Dr. Neelam Lal , Mr. Pravin Mane and
Mr. Dexter Woodward
The seminar was organized so as to exhibit the views
of different people regarding the emerging issues in
the field of HR. The success of the event was marked by
the presence of our Honorable Director Dr. Sachin S
Vernekar who inaugurated the event by lighting the
lamp and enlightened the students of IMED by his
inspiring words along with the Chief Guest MR. V J
Rao (President & Strategic Business Head, MINDA
Industries Ltd.) Mr. Rao spoke about the
Innovative approaches in HR , and role of HR in
“VUCA- Volatility , Uncertainity , Complexity ,
Ambiguity” . The Guest of Honor for the program
was Mr. Amit Sharma (Director – HR with Philips
India Ltd) who focused on updating the students
with the knowledge of adding ‘VALUE’ to the
business. Amongst the other eminent speakers for
the event we had Mr. Bobby Kuriakose (Director –
HR, Learning & Development, Forbes Marshall
Group, Pune) who provoked the audience by the
outlining the potential the present youth has to work
in the Industry . Knowledge in the area of Corporate
sector was added on by Mr. Naresh Kumar Pinisetti
(Deepak Fertilizers & Petrochemicals Co. Ltd) and Mr.
Karan Bakshi (Staffing lead at TIBCO Software Ltd.).
After the inspiring words coming from such eminent
guest we had the Paper Presentation Competition with
the theme ‘Contribution of HR to Organizational
Excellence’ in which Radhika Hasija (MBA HR- I Yr)
was declared as the winner who spoke on ‘CrossCultural Management along with Apurva Singh (MBAII Yr.) who spoke on Corporate Social Responsibility
banging the Runner-up position.
The backbone of the event was the Forum team
(Tamanna Tyagi, Gunjan Mehra, Shilpa Sharma, Ashish
Anthony, Adwait Thite, Radhika Hasija) who made a
combined effort to make the event successful. The
Forum is looking forward for more such opportunities

National Unity Day, the Birth Anniversary of
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Event
To commemorate the Birth Anniversary of Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel - Iron Man of India the event was
organized on 31st Oct 2014 at IMED to spread the
message of National Integrity.
The program started with tribute to Sardar
Vallabhbhai Patel by offering garland and flowers
at the hands of Dr. Sachin S. Vernekar, Dean FMS &
Director IMED and staff of IMED.
On 13th Jan, 2015, a Seminar on ‘Importance of
Stock Market for students’ and ‘Virtual Trading
Competition at National Level’ was organized.
The resource person invited was Mr. Nihal Khan,
Regional Manager, ICICI direct Center for
Financial Learning. He has Overall 11 years of
experience in Training, Business Development &
Brand Building.
Students of MBA FM, MBA G, MBA HR and BBA
attended the seminar and participated
enthusiastically in the Virtual trading Online
competition. Mr. Nihal Khan explained
basic principles of investing in Stock Market
through presentation and video. It was very
beneficial
for the students to enhance their skills like critical
thinking, risk taking, analyzing and decision
making.

on Currency & Commodities Derivatives on 28th
Feb, 2015. The Resource person invited was Mr.
Suresh Kumar, Asoo. VP, Nirmal Bang. He

knowledge about the sound mixing, editing,
cinematography and autography. At the end, the
students visited the museum which had beautiful
collection of antique materials required in film
making and also had large collection posters of old
films. The visit was a great learning experience for
the students and inspired many to choose the field
of cinema and television.

Visit to FILM AND TELEVISION
INSTITUTE OF INDIA
On 6 January, 2015, a visit to Film and Television
Institute of India was organized for the students of
BBA-II. The students were accompanied by Prof.
Aakash Yadav and Prof. Vijay Phalke. FTII is India’s
leading Training institute in the field of film and
television .

person invited was Ms. Shraddha Sura. The topics

‘ACCOLADE’
The Inauguration ceremony for the year 2014-15
took place on 3rd January 2015, by ‘Dr. Sachin S.
Vernekar’, Director IMED, as the ‘Guest of Honor’.
The event was based on the theme of ‘ACCOLADE –
RECREATION IS WHAT WE DESIRE’.
Two activities were being organized by the HR
Team, in the name of ‘BATTLE OF BRAINS’ &
‘PRESO-MANIA’. Battle of Brains was a ‘Business
Quiz’ consisting of 5 different rounds with 5 teams
participating in it. PURNI MEHTA & PRIYANKA
RAJPUT from MBA (GEN-B) were declared as the
winners. Whereas Preso-mania was another
interesting activity which meant ‘Recognizing
through presentation’ with JIJO DANIEL & AARTI
BASTANI from MBA (GEN-A) declared as the
winners.
International Students’ Cell
Global Green Day
On 24th Dec, 2014, the International Students’
Cell had organized "Global Green Day" wherein
they planted a christmas tree at the hands of
Hon.Dr. Sachin . S. Vernekar, Director Dean FMS,
Director, IMED. The attempt was to Preserve
Nature at a Global Level. The event was organised
and celebrated by cutting of the cake on 24th
December 2014 eve of Christmas Day. The event
was coordinated by Mrs. Rajlakshmi Wagh
(Secretary), Mrs. Bharati Yelikar and Mr. Ashok
Sathe.

‘XPRESSIONS 2K15’
XpressionS’, is the International Management and
Cultural Fest of Institute of Management and
Entrepreneurship Development (IMED), which
gives stage to students to showcase their talents.
XpressionS’ had a head start on February
13th2015. Spread across a span of three days, the
fest provides platform to students from undergraduate and post-graduate colleges to enhance
student’s creative skills and harness their
potential in becoming capable leaders.
Inauguration of XpressionS was done at the hands
of. Dr. Sachin S. Vernekar, Dean, Faculty of

constituents. The Fest was divided into four
categories viz. Technical, Management, Fine Arts
and Performing Arts over three days. The event
had in itself 20 competitions which saw around
100+ teams participate from over 20+ colleges.

football club,Bigbazar, Mother Recipe, Bistro
1969, Bank of Maharastra, Dynamic, Chaitanya
Health club, Radio city, Nirmalya trust .Prize
distribution ceremony was organized on 15th Feb
for all the best performances of XpessionS.

Achievements of IMED Students
On 6th Nov 2014, a workshop on Road safety was
organized at BVDU, IMED for all teaching and nonteaching staff of IMED. The programme was
inaugurated by Mr. Keshav Rane, Additional Police
Commissioner, Mumbai (Retd)
Vivek Bhujbal MBA G C has received special
awards and trophys in the Convocation Ceremony
held on 13th December 2014 at AMITY
UNIVERSITY, NODIA, INDIA.
Mr. Rane made audience aware about current
scenario and statistics of road accidents in India,
its causes and consequences. The workshop was
coordinated by Mr. Vijay Phalke (NSS Programme
Officer), Mrs. Shivali Ingawale, Mr. Pramod Kadam
and Ms. Sucheta Kanchi.

New Year Greeting distribution
conveying massage of Road Safety awareness
On 30th January 2015, students of BBA of IMED
distributed New Year greetings in various parts
of Pune. Three groups of students consisting of 5
students each, visited major areas of pune to
distribute New Year greetings.
Around 5000 greetings were distributed at
signals of areas Hinjewadi, Hadapsar, Kothrud and
Pune University. The greetings had Road Safety
Message on them so as to create awareness among
the masses regarding the safety measures to be
taken while on road.
