With the release of Hope For The
Hopeless, the folk and rock influenced
singer/songwriter’s authenticity,
willingness to weave meaning into his
melodies and reputation as one of the
best new live performers, Brett calls to
mind his influences. Drawing on a deep
appreciation of Paul Simon, Joni
Mitchell and World artists, Hope For
The Hopeless is a narrative-rich album
from an artist who was aptly summed
up by Grammy winning musician John
Mayer, who said, “He’s timeless. He’s
probably twenty-five but he seems like
he’s twenty-five in 1972.”
In fact, several musicians have given Brett
the “nod.” He has toured with Mayer and
received praise from Michael Franti and
Jason Mraz. Femi Kuti flew in specifically
to record with Dennen and the
collaboration is the new album’s first
single, “Make You Crazy.”

I grew up in a small east-Texas town called
Greenville where my whole childhood was spent
playing in creeks, bass fishing, shooting BB
guns, thinking about girls and listening to Garth.
After The Beatles and before Nirvana, country
music was the soundtrack to my life. That
music shaped who I am. My albums, which
tend to be diverse, usually have one or two cuts
on them that are rootsy-americana-folkiewhatever-the-fuck ya wanna call it. This album
just focuses on that one side of me. The stories
are all over the place. – BK
Over the course of his three studio albums,
Ben Kweller has become known as a topshelf purveyor of the powerhouse pop
song, but on his new album, a straight-up
country charmer, he has gone back to his
roots. “Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson –
those guys ruled the radio when I was 11.
So some of the first songs I wrote as a kid,
before I got into punk rock and
underground bands, were country songs.”
For Kweller, who was influenced at a
young age by the records his father’s
high-school buddy Nils Lofgren made
with Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen,
releasing a country album is the
realization of a long-held goal. “We
recorded it in 11 days but Changing
Horses is 13 years in the making.”
KEY SELLING POINTS:
North American tour in February 2009 includes a show at Toronto’s Mod Club on
February 22nd. Kweller has a solid touring history in Canada.
Digital marketing will be a major driver for this project – the last album, 2006’s Ben
Kweller, scanned 15% digital.

The Ultimate Threesome/Seasons Three, Four & Five
Queer As Folk is an American and
Canadian television series co-production,
produced by Showtime and Temple Street
Productions which was based on the
British series of the same name created by
Russell T Davies. The show was noted for
its somewhat frank depiction of gay life, as
well as its vivid sex scenes. The show
drew strong ratings for both Showtime and
Canada’s Showcase. The series ran for
five seasons (2000 to 2005 on Showtime
and 2001 to 2005 on Showcase). Another

Patti Smith
Dream Of Life
“Steven Sebring’s gorgeous,
up-close-and-personal doc
about the legendary rocker is
both a journey into Smith’s
storied past and a portrait of
her life today.” – New York
Magazine
“An act of rapturous
devotion…joyous, elegiac,
warm and vibrantly present,”
– Manohla Dargis, The New
York Times
“Few documentaries about
living artists get as deep into
their subject’s brain and
heart as this one about the
rock priestess and poetess.”
– NY Daily News
Eleven years in the making, Patti Smith:
Dream Of Life is a unique and intimate
portrait of the renowned singer, songwriter,
poet, and activist. Patti Smith’s music,
poetry, and politics are fearless, funny, raw,
and original.
Photographer-director Steven Sebring
creates a beautiful collage of images,
memories, and performances, illuminating the
complexities and capturing the essence of
this distinctive, legendary icon. The film
traces Patti Smith’s punk-poet roots
throughout the trails of daily life and untimely
deaths that have formed her life and art.
Smith narrates the film touching on her early
days in New York City, the people dearest to
her (late husband Fred ‘Sonic’ Smith, Allen
Ginsberg, Robert Mapplethorpe, and others),
her family, and the political causes she
champions.
Through beautiful cinematography (both black &
white and color), Sebring captures the essential
nature of this vital and relevant American artist.

Not much is known about the true origins of
Fires Of Rome, but regardless of how it all
happened they have recorded what is sure to be
one of next year’s most enthralling and
captivating debuts. On You Kingdom You,
Andrew Wyatt, Matt Kranz and Gunnar make the
kind of sound that embodies everything that is
exciting about music today: uncategorized,
anthemic and daring.
The heartbreaking “Dawn Lament” kicks off the
album eith its keyboard drone, military beat and
a guitar that sounds like horn stabs. The driving
beat and riff descend into a frail piano melody
and rise back up. These adventurous song
structures abound in You Kingdom You. “Set
In Stone” think funk bass and chic-like guitar
build up to a soaring chorus sung in a
shimmering falsetto. “Songs As Yet Unsung” has
a punk ferocity with glam rock sheen that dares
you to attempt remaining still. The T. Rex stomp
and seductive vocal of “But You’re Such A Cherry”
illustrate the song’s tale of coming on to someone
younger.
Fires Of Rome have made an album of the highest
quality at a time when the album is an endangered
species. Listen to it beginning to end and then do it
again, this is one of the few new artists who can
captivate you for ten songs and leave you wanting
more.
