VCP Origin is a highly cost-effective

As part of the Edgeware Video
Consolidation Platform, the VCP Origin
collapses separate Origin components
such as recorders, streamers and
packagers into a single operating unit.
Supplementing this with low-cost,
commodity storage, core Origin functions
of recording, ingest, re-packaging and
play-out reach new levels of efficiency
and delivery capacity. With no reliance
on expensive file stores or supplementary
servers to maximise and guarantee
play-out capacity, Origin scalability is
immediately simplified and its cost
reduced, allowing service providers of
any size to grow in line with subscriber,
content and service expansions. In

both live and catch-up programming.

both set-top boxes and multiscreen
devices imposes high infrastructure
costs. The VCP Edge dramatically
reduces these costs and increases

As part of the Edgeware Video
Consolidation Platform, the VCP Edge
enables instant scalability, together with
set-top box and multiscreen network
consolidation. Operators can deliver

Using Convoy Control and Management
Software in close integration with
the optimised Orbit Delivery Servers
ensures efficient and effective,
configuration, content management,
licence control, session management,
monitoring and analytics, and an open
integration framework.
The tight integration with the delivery
servers enables real-time monitoring
and adjustment of sophisticated
parameters that affect the quality of
experience, even when the mix of
services changes. The architecture is
extremely distributed, with delivery
servers performing many ‘heavy lifting’
functions including calculating asset
popularity, load, and logging adaptive
streaming statistics. Only aggregated
reports are collected and processed
by Convoy, making it very ‘lightweight’
and massively scalable, even when
processing business analytics for
millions of concurrent devices in realtime, to enable service adjustment and
maintenance of quality of experience.

The quality of experience is guaranteed
regardless of any rapid changes in the mix
of video services, thanks to optimisation
for video delivery via dedicated hardware,
and acceleration of the networking ports,
file system and storage media.
The Orbit servers support wire speed
delivery of up to 80 gigabits-per-second
and 128,000 concurrent streams from
a single Rack Unit (RU) (Orbit 3080).
This equates to a ten-fold increase in
throughput per RU compared to the
highest performing generic servers. The
form factor enables installation anywhere
in the network, in centralised data centre
racks or highly distributed telco racks.
At just 100W peak power consumption
(Orbit 3020) and with a Mean Time
Between Failures of over 10 years,
Orbit Delivery Servers have the lowest
operational costs on the market.
