Summary
A versatile musician with the skills and determination to be the best and to make
other around even better.
Education
My musical studies started in the classical realm at the age of ten when I started
taking double bass lessons. From there all of the way through High School I continued to
play the bass and played Sophomore year in the pit orchestra for my schools Fall Musical
while Junior and Senior year I was selected to perform on-stage in the musical singing. I
was selected to Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) District 8 Orchestra all four
years of high school and once during middle school. I was also selected to IMEA AllState Orchestra for all three years. I also received a Division One status, the highest
possible, from the IMEA Solo auditions. For private study in double bass, I was under the
instruction of Mr. Robert Whipple, Cellist for the Sterling Symphony Orchestra in
Sterling, IL. Continuing on in high school I was introduced to jazz and started playing
piano by gathering sounds from everywhere. I became a musician for the Saint Paul
Missionary Baptist Church, which I am now the Musical Director of. I graduated with
Honors in Music and also received The National School Orchestra Award from Freeport
High School for my excelling in music through out my high school career. After high
school I attended Columbia College Chicago and started in their Bachelor’s program for
Audio Design and Production. While at Columbia I studied piano under Peter Saxe,
pianist for the Chicago Jazz Ensemble. He made a piano player out of me. I had a short
stint playing organ for the True Light Church Baptist of Chicago, IL before returning to
St. Paul as Musical Director. I am currently a Piano instructor and Recording Engineer
for the Lynn-Marcel Academy of Fine Arts located in Hillside, IL.
Instruments
My main instrument is Piano although I also play bass, organ, and guitar. I was
selected to sing in a choir behind Maya Angelou for the Oprah Winfrey show in the
winter of 2007. For a majority of live performances I use a Mac or Pc running Pro Tools
7, Reason 4, and various software synthesizers for programming. I also use an MPC for
loop programming. My favorite Style is R&B. I love just grooving, and smooth chord
changes. Something about rhythms and extended chords excites me to no end especially
when the groove is locked in. I should have been a drummer.
