Gospel Acclamation
Acts 3:13-15. 17-19
Peter said to the people 'You are Israelites, and it is the
God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our
ancestors, who has glorified his servant Jesus, the same
Jesus you handed over and then disowned in the
presence of Pilate, after Pilate had decided to release
him. It was you who accused the Holy One, the Just
One, you who demanded the reprieve of a murderer
while you killed the prince of life. God, however, raised
him from the dead, and to that fact we are the
witnesses.
'Now I know, brothers, that neither you nor your
leaders had any idea what you were really doing; this
was the way God carried out what he had foretold,
when he said through all his prophets that his Christ
would suffer. Now you must repent and turn to God, so
that your sins may be wiped out.'

Luke 24:35-48
The disciples told their story of what had happened on
the road and how they had recognised Jesus at the
breaking of bread.
They were still talking about this when Jesus himself
stood among them and said to them, 'Peace be with
you!' In a state of alarm and fright, they thought they
were seeing a ghost. But he said, 'Why are you so
agitated, and why are these doubts rising in your
hearts? Look at my hands and feet; yes, it is I indeed.
Touch me and see for yourselves; a ghost has no flesh
and bones as you can see I have.' And as he said this
he showed them his hands and feet. Their joy was so
great that they could not believe it, and they stood
dumbfounded; so he said to them, 'Have you anything
here to eat?' And they offered him a piece of grilled
fish, which he took and ate before their eyes.
Then he told them, 'This is what I meant when I said,
while I was still with you, that everything written about
me in the Law of Moses, in the Prophets and in the
Psalms, has to be fulfilled.' He then opened their minds
to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, 'So
you see how it is written that the Christ would suffer
and on the third day rise from the dead, and that, in his
name, repentance for the forgiveness of sins would be
preached to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
You are witnesses to this.'
I am writing this, my children, to stop you sinning; but if
anyone should sin, we have our advocate with the
Father, Jesus Christ, who is just; he is the sacrifice that
takes our sins away, and not only ours, but the whole
world's. We can be sure that we know God only by
keeping his commandments. Anyone who says, 'I know
him', and does not keep his commandments, is a liar,
refusing to admit the truth.

The Pastor’s Pen!
Over the past couple of years, the
Debutante Ball has been run a bit on a
wing and a prayer. There has been no
real organising committee, at the top
level, and a couple of dedicated people
have simply kept things going. The lack
of a co-ordinating committee has
meant that way too often very trivial
matters have crossed my desk—with
parents rebelling, for example, over
suggested seating placements for the
Debs and their Partners.
In all honesty, my care level about
everything related to Debutante Balls is
absolutely zero. In a week in which I
have had to celebrate six funerals, my
care level for Debutante Balls actually
goes into negative territory. As I said to
one interested party this week, I am
very close to making a decision to
cancel future so-called Catholic Deb
Balls. I am not sure why this is a major
project of our parish and I cannot see
at all what this has to do with Jesus or
growing in love or service of him.
If we are to continue with hosting
Debutante Balls in this district, we need
a continuing committee of dedicated
parishioners to oversee the Ball—and
by “dedicated parishioners” I explicitly
mean people who are dedicated to the
parish and its well being, not simply
people who write Catholic on the
census form every five years.
Soon after this year’s Deb Ball, I will
seek expressions of interest in serving
on a Debutante Ball Committee. If we
are unable to form such a committee
of six to eight people, we will need to
make a decision about the future of the
Debutante Ball.
But when anyone does obey what he has said, God's
love comes to perfection in him.

This week, our forty or so sacramental
preparation children begin their
preparations for the sacrament of
Confirmation. Please keep them and
their families in your prayers, that they
might receive many gifts from the Holy
Spirit.
Next Saturday is ANZAC Day. This year
is a special year being the one
hundredth anniversary of the Gallipoli
landings. By chance, I am the chaplain
to the RSL for their various ceremonies
this year. I feel especially blessed to be
able to participate as chaplain in this
year’s ceremonies. Please note, we will
celebrate Mass, for ANZAC Day at
8.00am on Saturday morning.
This Tuesday evening is the inquiry
session for anyone interested in
becoming Catholic, as advertised
within. If you know of any interested
parties, please don’t be afraid to extend
them an invitation.
There are only a couple of weeks left to
register for the Our Lady of Lourdes
100 Years celebrations. Brochures are
available in each church and can also
be downloaded from the Lourdes
School website. This is ultimately a
celebration of 100 years of Catholic
Education in our district. It is a
marvellous milestone to reach for our
parish community.

Compassion is a word that comes
from the heart – it is our ‘feeling
with’ another, to be drawn out of
ourselves. It is a tender generosity
of spirit that arises from our being
loved by God. It confers a gracious
blessing both on the recipient, and
on the one responding. Both in his
actions and his words, Pope Francis
takes every opportunity to stress the
love, mercy and compassion which
God has for us – and the compassion
that is planted in us because of our
own experience of God’s love.

Peace be with you
When Jesus appears in the midst of the disciples, his
first words to them are, ‘Peace be with you!’ His
appearance among them obviously agitated the
disciples who were already hiding, in fear of their lives
and devastated by the loss of their leader days earlier.
Jesus’ calming and reassuring words, ‘Peace be with
you!’ recognise the reality of what state the disciples
are in. The words demonstrate that Jesus is meeting
the disciples ‘where they are’ – he recognises their
distress and fear and responds with words that accept
what they’re feeling but reassure them of his love and
care. They are words that Jesus speaks to us too!
