Chungnam National University Global Scholarship Program (CNU – GSP) 1. What’s CNU-GSP? A. Purpose : To offer valuable opportunity for students from overseas to have a better understanding of Korean Language and social customs through academic lectures. It is an ideal program for those who would like to broaden their perspective in Korean culture and life style. B. 3. Fall Semester at Chungnam National University : Sep. 1 – Dec. 17, 2015 (4 months) Eligibility A. Undergraduate & graduate students from CNU partner universities B. Korean or English Language proficiency required - Official English test score required for the students from non English-speaking countries ; TOEIC 750, iBT 60, or IELTS 5.5 on the academic module - Korean language proficiency required for the students who need to take the courses taught in Korean ; TOPIK level 3 C. Grade Point Average (GPA) : minimum 3.5 out of 4.5 D. Nomination from his/her home universities. 4. Application Deadline: Apr. 24, 2015 5. Course Outline Throughout the program several courses will be available in English from the disciplines of social sciences and humanities, e.g. history and culture of Korea. These courses will enable students to have a finer understanding of the country of Korea. Three credits are given for most of the classes. A CNU-GSP class for 3 credits meets 3 lecture hours for 15-16 weeks. Course list and course descriptions will be available in August, 2015. We also encourage regular CNU students who have proper English Language competency to participate into CNU-GSP classes so as to make them an international environment where students can share in cultural diversity. For those who are interested in learning the Korean Language, Korean language classes will be available for program participants. Students can opt for either Intensive Korean Classes or Free Korean Classes. Based on students’ language ability, we may allow students to take regular academic courses in Korean from CNU faculties. Students may select a regular course(s) based on their major and academic interests. 6. Student Status and Transfer Credits CNU-GSP students will be considered as international exchange students. Accordingly, students are able to take academic classes (min. 3 credits to max. 18 credits) for earning credits and grades. At the completion of the program, the Office of International Affairs, CNU will issue academics records and certificate for successful completion of the program upon the student’s request. The credits earned at CNU are transferrable under the regulations of the student’s home university. 7. Benefits* A. Exemption from tuition and other associate fees of CNU B. Free on-campus accommodation C. Special Scholarship : 1,000,000 KW (Approx. USD 900 / Deposited upon arrival) D. Korean Language Class (Optional) : Intensive or Regular class - Regular class (Free) : Total 60 class hours for 10 weeks - Intensive class (50% off from the regular fee) : Regular fee 1,300,000 KW * Intensive class fee may be subject to change without prior notice. E. Attending academic classes * The GSP student(s) can be switched to general exchange student(s) with only tuition waiver depending on a budget matter. 8. Application Procedure A. Complete the application form and submit all necessary materials listed in the application check-list (first page of application) to international office of home university B. Nomination of students according to selection criteria and application deadline set by home university C. Submit application materials to CNU by the designated application deadline notified in this brochure D. Final admission decision by CNU E. Admission Notice to home university 9. Health Insurance Since the program does not cover the health insurance for students, it is required to have your own health insurance which covers the following benefits (Death, Personal Accident, and Repatriation) during your stay in Korea. Students should arrange for the insurance before arriving in Korea. 11. Housing (On-campus) A. Room type : Double or triple room with shared bathroom B. Meal : 2 meals(breakfast & dinner) a day provided C. Furnished with bed, desk, chair, closet and refrigerator in each room
