INNOVATION AT ST. JUDE MEDICAL
We believe that investing in purposeful innovation is instrumental in our success.
We are uniquely positioned for long-term growth driven by our vision to address
expensive epidemic diseases with solutions that improve lives and reduce the
economic burden on health care systems worldwide.
Atrial Fibrillation (AF): St. Jude Medical is a pioneer and a leader in the global
AF market, which is estimated at more than $2.9 billion. The company offers the
industry’s broadest product portfolio for the electrophysiology (EP) lab, aiding
physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.
Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM): We estimate that the worldwide
CRM market is approximately $10 billion in size. With the industry’s first
quadripolar pacing system featuring four pacing electrodes, St. Jude Medical
is providing physicians with innovative technology that is able to reduce
common complications seen with traditional bipolar leads when delivering
resynchronization therapy to heart failure patients.
Neuromodulation: St. Jude Medical is a strong contributor in the $2 billion
neuromodulation market. We are working to bring innovative products to
underpenetrated markets of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) and deep brain
stimulation (DBS) in order to improve patient care. During 2014, St. Jude Medical
acquired NeuroTherm, Inc., a privately held manufacturer and global leader in the
treatment of spinal pain using radiofrequency ablation.
Cardiovascular: St. Jude Medical participates in the vascular and structural
heart markets that when combined total more than $5 billion. We have strong
franchises in heart valve replacement, fractional flow reserve (FFR) and optical
coherence tomography (OCT) intravascular imaging systems, vascular closure
and left atrial appendage occlusion. In 2014, St. Jude Medical acquired
CardioMEMS, Inc., to introduce the first and only FDA-approved heart failure
monitor proven to significantly reduce heart failure hospital admissions and
improve quality of life in NYHA Class III patients.
