2015 Summer Camps Business & Community Education Camp Descriptions Zen Doodle Youth Camp With Zen inspired art you will find incredible powers that help you relax and improve your focus. We will learn to use the K’Nex building system to create structures and simple machines. Then we will use what we have learned about bridges and the K’Nex system to design and build our own bridges, in competition with others in the club – the goal being to build the strongest and lightest bridge. Grade: 5 - 8 Date: Jun 29 - Jul 2 Days: M - TH Time: 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. Cost: $40 Location: Harms Center, Discovery Lab Robotics In robotics camp, we will build a robot, using parts from a Lego Mindstorms #9797 robot kit, and learn to program the robot using software on a computer. Then we’ll put our robot to work conquering some challenges. Not as big or expensive as the Mars Curiosity Rover, but just as much fun! Grade: 5 - 8 Date: Jun 29 - Jul 2 Days: M - TH Time: 1 - 4 p.m. Cost: $40 Location: Harms Center, Discovery Lab K’Nex Chunkin’ In K’Nex Chunkin’ camp, we will learn to use the K’Nex building system by manufacturing some simple machines and studying their structure and function. Then teams will create their own version of catapult, which will throw a projectile farther the other teams. Our tasks will resemble what they do in “Punkin’ Chunkin’”, but we’ll make less of a mess! Grade: 5 - 8 Date: July 6 - 9 Days: M - TH Time: 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. Astronomy Camp Cost: $40 Explore the size and scale of our solar system by Location: Harms Center, Discovery Lab mapping out the sun and planets on a very large map – over 1000 yards in length! The camp covers hitting, throwing, fielding and pitching along with actual game play. Instructor is WNCC baseball coach Mike Jones, his assistants and current/former players. Ages: 7 - 14 Date: May 26 - 29 Days: T - F Time: 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Cost: $50 Location: Scottsbluff 23 Club (diamonds located in Frank Park next to Scottsbluff High School) Little Cougars Volleyball Camp This camp gives the younger age a fundamental base to volleyball. Instruction will be tailored to their grade level. Grades 3 - 5 Date: July 8 Time: 8:30 - 11:30 a.m. & 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. Cost: $70 Location: Cougar Palace Individual Volleyball Skills This camp helps campers develop and finetune the basics of volleyball, including the mechanics and proper technique in serving, blocking, hitting, passing, setting and defense.
