BRIAN WILSON ANNOUNCES “NO PIER PRESSURE
TOUR”
INCLUDING A PERFORMANCE AT
DETROIT’S FOX THEATRE JULY 5
WILSON, CO-FOUNDER OF THE BEACH BOYS, WILL BE JOINED BY
FORMER BANDMATES AL JARDINE AND BLONDIE CHAPLIN,
PLUS SPECIAL GUEST, RODRIGUEZ
Music legend Brian Wilson will hit the road this summer with his
band, touring to more than 15 U.S. cities including Detroit’s Fox
Theatre on Sunday, July 5. Wilson will perform songs from his
forthcoming Capitol album, No Pier Pressure, as well as top hits
and fan favorites spanning his 50-year career with The Beach
Boys and as a solo artist. Rodriguez, star of the Oscar-winning
documentary Searching for Sugarman, will open the concerts
with a special set. Brian will also be joined by former bandmates
Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin. Onsale details for all of the
shows will soon be announced.
For his 11th solo studio album, No Pier Pressure, Wilson has
returned to Capitol Records, his original label home with The
Beach Boys. Available now for preorder, the album will be released April 7 in standard 13-track and deluxe 16-track editions,
each in CD and digital formats, as well as a 16-track 2LP edition
on 180-gram vinyl. No Pier Pressure’s digital preorder provides an instant download of its lead track, “The Right Time,” featuring vocals by Wilson and Al Jardine, and guitar by David Marks.

In theaters, Roadside Attractions’ Brian Wilson biopic Love & Mercy presents an unconventional portrait of the music legend. Set against the era-defining catalog of the music, the film intimately examines
the personal voyage and ultimate salvation of the icon whose success came at extraordinary personal cost. Directed by Bill Pohlad, starring John Cusack, Paul Dano, Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti. Love
& Mercy’s U.S. film festival premiere March 15 at SXSW Film.

Brian Wilson is one of popular music’s most deeply revered figures, a legendary writer, producer, arranger and performer of some of the most cherished music in pop music history. For more than half a
century, fans have marveled at the sheer beauty of the music that springs forth from his imagination into glorious song. Wilson brings this ingenious vision to his own compositions, as well as to those for
which he has collaborated, weaving a lush, vibrant tapestry of intricately nuanced vocal harmonies and instrumental arrangements for himself, his bandmates and others.
Wilson began his career as a teenaged founding member of The Beach Boys, who signed with Capitol Records in July 1962 and released their first album, Surfin’ Safari, that same year. The band’s initial surfrock focus was soon broadened to include other themes, and 1966’s Pet Sounds is universally hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time. Wilson’s innovative vocal and instrumental arrangements for
major hits including “I Get Around,” “California Girls,” “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “God Only Knows” and the No. 1 smash “Good Vibrations” made The Beach Boys America’s preeminent band of the 1960s.
Wilson has also achieved great solo success with 10 of his own albums released to date, including his acclaimed 2004 completion of an album he first began recording in the 1960s, Brian Wilson Presents…
SMiLE. The album earned Wilson his first GRAMMY® for a recording, which was followed by his second GRAMMY® win for producing The Beach Boys’ acclaimed 2011 release, The SMiLE Sessions. With his
own band, Wilson has performed major, sold-out SMiLE and Pet Sounds tours in recent years, and with The Beach Boys, he celebrated the iconic band’s 50th anniversary in 2012 with a major international
tour and acclaimed studio album, That’s Why God Made The Radio.
Brian Wilson is a Kennedy Center Honors recipient, a Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee, and a U.K. Music Hall of Fame inductee. As a member of The Beach Boys, Wilson was inducted into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame in 1988 and honored with The Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
ERNIE THE PLAY BY AWARD-WINNING AUTHOR MITCH ALBOM
RETURNS FOR A FIFTH YEAR AT CITY THEATRE OPENING JULY 9
Olympia Entertainment is proud to announce that Ernie – A play by Mitch Albom, will return for a fifth unforgettable season at the City Theatre, located inside of Hockeytown Café. As Detroit buzzes with
excitement on the verge of the 2015 Detroit Tiger’s season, Ernie invites fans to celebrate and remember “The Voice of Summer” with an opening performance on Thursday, July 9 and running through
Sunday, August 2. Presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and Blue Care Network, the two-man play, is dedicated to the late and beloved Hall of Fame Detroit Tigers announcer, Ernie Harwell.
Tickets ($20 and $25) will remain at the same low price as the original 2011 season and go on sale Saturday, April 4 at 10 a.m. Tickets may be purchased online at OlympiaEntertainment.com, the Fox Theatre and Joe Louis Arena box offices, Hockeytown Authentics in Troy (without service charge), at all Ticketmaster locations, Ticketmaster.com and at the City Theatre box office, located inside Hockeytown
Cafe. To charge tickets by phone, call 1-800-745-3000. Groups of 8+ receive a discount on select seats by calling 313-471-3099. As with the past four seasons, proceeds from Ernie merchandise sales will go
to the Ernie Harwell Foundation.
Ernie’s fifth anniversary season will again feature the doubleheader experience with convenient showtimes to provide fans the ability to watch the play and catch a Tigers game in the same day. To take
advantage of the “doubleheader”, patrons must present their Ernie show ticket stub at the Comerica Park Box Office. Fans can receive $5 savings on select seating and at select regular season home games.
Game tickets will only be available for pick-up at the Comerica Park Box Office.
"We remain amazed and humbled at the continued interest in the show,” said Mitch Albom. “It speaks to the timeless nature of Ernie's style and humanity. Our actors give it their all every performance,
which insures a great night at the theater. We are looking forward to another great season."
The show welcomes back local favorite TJ Corbett in his role as The Boy along with veteran stage actor Peter Carey in the lead role of Ernie. Carey's uncanny portrayal of Harwell, the broadcasting legend,
was hailed during his leading role debut as Ernie in 2014 and as an understudy during the play’s 2011, 2012 and 2013 seasons.
Albom, who was asked by Harwell if he'd consider a play about the announcer's life, began writing the script after Ernie’s passing in May of 2010. The two-actor play debuted in April 2011 to coincide with
the Tigers baseball season and has since become the highest-attended show in the history of the City Theatre; with nearly 79,000 patrons in four seasons.
Ernie is set on Harwell’s last night at Comerica Park in September of 2009, prior to his moving thank you speech to his adopted and beloved city of Detroit. Just before he walks onto the grassy field, he
encounters an unusual boy who is eager to know all about him, coaxing Harwell into giving one final broadcast – the “broadcast of his life”.
The play features classic footage from historic baseball moments, supplied courtesy of Major League Baseball, and boasts many unmistakable Harwell calls. Tigers fans will get a glimpse of the time that
Ernie met the Great Bambino and Ty Cobb. They’ll witness how he “recreated” games in his early days, and what was behind his broadcasts of the Tigers’ 1968 and 1984 World Series.
The show will also play in Traverse City from August 12-16 at the Opera House and in East Lansing from August 19-23 at the Pasant Theatre this season.

We are proud to announce that Grand Hotel has just added
two new Pickleball courts! All guests are welcome to come
relax, compete, and play on the only clay pickleball courts in
the state of Michigan!
Pickleball was created in the summer of 1965 on Bainbridge
Island – a short ferry ride from Seattle, Washington. A family
friendly game, pickleball games take place on a badminton
size court with four players. Combining the elements of tennis,
badminton, and ping pong, pickleball is a great way to enjoy a
fast paced game that’s easy to learn and fun to play!
The USAPA official Pickleball ambassadors for Mackinac Island,
Marge and Rich Lind, are island residents who spend time in
Arizona each winter where they first discovered the sport.
Upon returning home to Mackinac this spring, they wanted
to introduce residents and tourists to the game and spread
the contagious pickleball excitement! As one of the fastest
growing sports in the U.S., Grand Hotel welcomes all guests to
come enjoy two of the 1800+ pickleball courts in the United
States. Cole Heule, Grand Hotel’s Tennis Pro, is available to
teach the beginner this exciting sport. Paddles and Pickleballs
are available at the tennis pro-shop.

Chicago Yacht Club's Race to Mackinac
07/10/2015 - 07/14/2015
This is known as the world’s longest freshwater sailing event and
is recognized as one of the most prestigious sailing races in the
world. Today, sailors from Maine to California make this race an
invariable part of their summer. Moreover, each year the Mac
hosts sailors from as far off as Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. Although the Mac remains primarily an amateur event, this
race has a proven track record of attracting some of the finest
sailing talent in the sport. The monohull record of 23 hours, 30
minutes, and 34 seconds set by Roy Disney’s Pyewacket in 2002,
and Steve Fossett on Stars and Stripes set the multihull record
of 18 hours, 50 minutes, and 32 seconds in 1998. Both records
still stand today. The unpredictable weather and fickle winds on
Lake Michigan make the Race to Mackinac a supreme test, which
many competitors feel rivals any ocean race. As one veteran
sailor put it, “It’s fun, but it’s serious fun.”
07/11/2015 - 07/16/2015 Family Added Value Days
Step away from it all and plan your family vacation to America’s
Summer Place. Enjoy a special family retreat at a very special
rate. Stay two nights and get the third night half off, or stay one
night and get the second night 25% off. Kids of all ages will enjoy
complimentary children’s programs, lawn games, swimming in
the Esther Williams Swimming Pool, free golf for ages 17 and
younger and half off for accompanying adults on The Jewel, and
a full breakfast and five-course dinner daily with casual family
style dinner options available.

Sophie Calle: North Pole
Now–August 9, 2015
Following her mother's death, French conceptual artist Sophie Calle wanted to bury
her portrait and jewels on a glacier in the North Pole, a place her mother had always
dreamed of seeing. This multifaceted installation, consisting of video, photographs,
and a light box, documents moments of Calle's journey to fulfill her mother's unrealized dream.
North Pole / Pôle nord also includes three porcelain plaques on which Calle has inscribed a story about her voyage. The following text is an excerpt:
"I waited to reach the northernmost point on the trip in order to go ashore and bury
my mother's jewels. L., my cabin-mate on the boat, suggested that if the weather was
not permitting, I could still flush the ring down the toilet. The prospect would have
made my mother laugh. But on Thursday October 2, 2008, the weather was fine. I
ventured onto the glacier, chose a beautiful stone and buried the portrait, the necklace and the diamond. Now my mother has gone to the Arctic North. Will climate
change carry her out to sea as far as the Pole? Will she be dragged down the valley
towards the ice cap? Will she stay on that shore, a marker of the Northern Glacier’s
existence in the Holocene period?"
The creative process that drives North Pole is characteristic of Calle's practice: she not
only shares a story drawn from her own life, but uses that moment to inspire further
artistic exploration. Following a set of self-established behavioral instructions, she
transforms her daily life with a series of performative actions, usually executed as
a combination of texts and photographs. The result is a poignant reconsideration
of the parameters of public versus private life, through a body of work grounded in
compelling, and often very intimate, personal investigation.
This exhibition is made possible
in part by the Robert and Janet
Miller Fund.

Hana Hamplová: Meditations on Paper
Now–August 9, 2015
Inspired by a story by Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal, Czech photographer Hana Hamplová created a memorable body of work during
the 1970s based on how important paper and the written word
are to civilization—including how easily writings and, consequently knowledge, can be lost. This exhibition, consisting of 19 photographs from UMMA’s collection, was inspired by the presence of
the Frank Gehry chair made of cardboard in UMMA’s Design Gallery, and of and the need to address how artists from different cultures (present-day America and communist Czechoslovakia) view
a commodity as common as paper.
Lead support for this exhibition is provided by the Herbert W. and
Susan L. Johe Endowment. Additional generous support is provided by the University of Michigan Center for European Studies, Center for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies, and the Weiser
Center for Emerging Democracies.

Tower of Power wsg. Average White Band
MotorCity Casino Hotel is proud to welcome Tower of Power with special guests Average White Band to Sound Board on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 8 p.m.
For close to 50 years, Tower of Power has been creating their own kind of soul music. Since 1968, Tower of Power has delivered their unique brand of music to their fans, appearing before sold out crowds as they tour the world each year. The band's leader and founding member, Emilio Castillo, has labeled Tower’s sound as "Urban Soul Music."
Tower's rhythm section lays down a groove like no other band. The band’s horn driven sound is unique, and the way they approach everything, from writing and arranging
to mixing and performing, is totally their own. Combine all of that with an outstanding lead vocalist and you have one of the most dynamic groups of musicians to ever hit
the stage. For more info on Tower of Power, please visit: http://www.towerofpower.com.
Average White Band (AWB) is widely regarded as one of the best soul and funk bands in the history of music. Perhaps best known for their timeless instrumental mega-hit
'Pick Up the Pieces' the band's strength actually lay in their consistently accomplished song-writing, stretching across several gold selling albums and multi- Grammy nominations for the legendary Atlantic Records. Somewhat incongruously, given their Scottish roots, the six piece took the influences of their R&B heroes - people like Marvin
Gaye, James Brown, Donny Hathaway and others - and
developed their own 'authentic' sound which was eagerly adopted by black audiences in the US and elsewhere. For more info on Average White Band, please

Edvard Munch
7.5.15 – 9.6.15
Graphics Gallery
Most famously known for his painting The Scream, Edvard Munch's graphic work is an integral part
of his oeuvre. Comprising over 25 works on paper, this exhibition includes lithographs, woodblocks,
etchings, drawings, drypoint, and intaglio by the Norwegian artist. Munch's graphic activities spanned
50 years from his first prints in 1894 to his death in 1944. While most of the works in the exhibition are
from his early years, a few later works are represented.
According to Munch, he produced around 30,000 graphic works in his lifetime. Munch was associated
with the international development of Symbolism in the 1890s and later regarded as a pioneer in the
Expressionist movement. Like some of his contemporaries' works, his art was very much influenced by
his mood and personal life.
In the 19th century, Paris was the art capital of the world and home of the French Academy,
which oversaw the premier art school—the École des Beaux-Arts (School of Fine Arts). The Academy also ran the official exhibitions (Salons) where artists showed their works. Following the
Academy's path would give hopeful artists (from all over Europe and America) the right of entry
to a world of fame, honors, awards, public and private commissions, and an opportunity to become a member of an elite circle that exerted all-powerful influence over the fine arts in France.
The Academy stood for well-established traditions, such as an emphasis on draftsmanship and
the importance of historical subject matter, which was challenged in the late 19th century by
artists such as the Impressionists.
Beauty, Passion, and Bliss spans the 19th century with major examples of works dealing with
classical mythology, biblical subjects, landscape and animals, genre (everyday subjects), and
Orientalism. The exhibition features 50 works by artists such as Jean-Léon Gérôme, WilliamAdolphe Bouguereau, Frederic, Lord Leighton, and Jean-Jacques Pradier.
Drawn from the collection of the Dahesh Museum of Art, the exhibition examines the Academy
and the making of art in the 19th-century. A full color catalogue titled Academic Splendor: 101
Masterpieces from the Dahesh Museum of Art accompanies the exhibition. The Dahesh Museum
of Art (located in New York City) is the only institution in the United States devoted to collecting
and exhibiting European academic art of the 19th century.

Aries: The Full Moon in Capricorn on the 2nd is a time when emotions will run high and low. With your
ruling planet Mars along for the ride you may feel edgy or irritable, especially with the demands of
family or from those at work. If you have not been taking care of Number One, you will feel the transit
more intensely. It’s a great time to assess whether or not you are putting your own needs aside. Look
within. You’ll be glad you did!
Taurus: This month’s subject is ‘family’ whether it is the one you were born with or one you created.
Communication issues are a standout during the first part of the month, especially around the Full
Moon in Capricorn on the 2nd. This one asks us all to be our own parent, to feel our emotions and
channel them wisely. Impatience with the status quo will be strong. Resist manipulation or control
games in all areas. Balance is key.
Gemini: The Full Moon in Capricorn on the 2nd highlights the balance between feelings and logic.
Every year at this time we take stock of our emotional needs and weigh them against the cold, hard
facts. In your case it puts a strong emphasis on expressing your needs versus withholding them, and
your income versus your debts. Add a dollop of impatience and you get the picture! Talk it out or journal it but avoid impulsive extreme retail therapy.
Cancer: Every year on the Full Moon in Capricorn (July 2nd) you have a chance to weigh certain aspects of your family life and closest relationships. Your nature is to nurture whether you are male or
female. Periodically you find yourself wearing the title of ‘Great Earth Mother!’ Needless to say, if you
have been overdoing it or taking on too much responsibility, you will certainly feel it now. Set your
boundaries with yourself and others.
Leo: Among others, the meaning of the Full Moon in Capricorn on the 2nd is ‘family and responsibility,’ and the desire to follow our intuition versus relying on cold, hard facts. As Mars is in Cancer all
through July, you will expend a lot of energy on family issues or others rooted in your past. Take another look at where you need to resolve issues or set new boundaries. This timeframe may bring out
the beast in you but clarity is a good thing!
Virgo: If you have children of any age, you will feel the energy of the Full Moon in Capricorn on the
2nd. Full Moons occur when the Sun and Moon are in opposite signs. In this case they could not be
more opposite! It is about nurture versus discipline, a true Mom vs Dad transit. Ask yourself if you
need to find the balance between the two in your relationships with your children. This is also about
designating your personal limits with others.
Libra: As the resident ‘diplomat’ of any family or workplace, the Full Moon in Capricorn on the
2nd has your name on it! You may be called upon to be a go between with family members or
others who are in the middle of a standoff. Remember the lessons Saturn taught you from fall
of 2010-fall of 2012. At that time you learned where to set your personal boundaries. If all else
fails, pull up the drawbridge and take care of your own needs!
Scorpio: Saturn has returned to pay a short visit to your sign. You can use the insights you have
gained over the last two years to guide you through the Full Moon in Capricorn on the 2nd.
Issue may include settling family issues or finding the balance between love and nurture vs
discipline and boundaries. Everyone needs a bit of both! This Full Moon can intensify emotional responses and draw out the impatient child in us all. Tread lightly.
Sagittarius: The Full Moon in Capricorn on the 2nd highlights all aspects your finances (money
coming in and money going out). You may also feel a bit more emotional anxiety about getting it under control. Remember, what you have or do not have is not the way to measure your
self-worth. Instead, look for ways to achieve emotional peace of mind in this area. Resist the
demands of others who manipulate you for financial benefits.
Capricorn: Once a year when the Full Moon is in your sign, you scrutinize your closest relationships and set new boundaries accordingly. This year it’s a bit more complicated. If others feel
they do not receive enough loving or nurturing from you, they will be vocal about it. Around
July 2nd it’s important to strive for give and take and look for a way to compromise. Weed out
the controlling individuals from ones who genuinely care.
Aquarius: We have all had our ups and downs of late but you could be experiencing it in your
tummy! The Full Moon in Capricorn on the 2nd highlights stress around the workplace and
your need to keep your feelings under control. If a co-worker is indeed stressing you out, or
anyone else for that matter, it’s time to find ways to deal with it. Also, if you are in the process
of changing your home in any way, take it easy! Rushing it will not help.
Pisces: The Full Moon in Capricorn on the 2nd underscores give and take issues, deep transformation and an adjustment when it comes to your goals. Full Moons have a distinct purpose.
After we get over the emotional ‘crazies’ they are associated with, we have the ability to see
both sides of a coin. This month highlights your emotional needs versus your goals and responsibilities. Some of which may be too extreme. Be nice to yourelf!
