World Veterinary Day-2015 celebrated at IVRI
Bareilly 25 April, 2015. The World Veterinary Day
(WVD) is being celebrated every year throughout the world on
the last Saturday of April. The “World Veterinary Day– 2015”
was celebrated by ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute
(IVRI) on 25th April, 2015 at its Izatnagar campus under the
theme of “Vector borne diseases (VBDs) with a zoonotic
potential”.
To mark this historic day in a befitting and scientific
manner, an awareness programme on VBDs for school/college
students was inaugurated by Prof. M.C. Varshneya, Vice
Chancellor, Kamdhenu University, Gandhinagar (Gujarat),
wherein, around 300 students and teachers were participated
from different schools/colleges of Bareilly. On this occasion, Dr
D.B. Patil, Director of Research, Kamdhenu University,
Gandhinagr (Gujarat) was Guest of Honour and Dr R.K. Singh,
Director and Vice Chancellor, IVRI presided over the
programme.
Speaking on the occasion, The Chief Guest, Prof.
Varshneya felt his happiness for participating in the historic
day with school children and shared his experience with all
kinds of students from primary level to PG. He also highlighted
the importance of veterinary profession as hard profession in
comparing the veterinary doctors with human doctors. He
further called upon the veterinarians to accept the challenges
regarding treatment and control of zoonotic diseases and
better health care of animals.
Speaking as Guest of Honour, Dr Patil emphasized the
role of veterinarian in our daily needs from morning-breakfast
to night-dinner. He further informed that the veterinary
profession has an obligation to play a pivotal role of delivering
its services to benefit the animal kind in particular, and the
mankind in society in general.
In his presentation, The Director, IVRI, delivered a
lecture on “Veterinarians and the profession-Role,
contributions, duties and…..future scope”. He explained the
veterinary profession as one of the noblest profession which
deals with the care of speechless animals who cannot explain
their sufferings. He also highlighted the brief history of IVRI in
development and production of veterinary biologicals including
more than 50 life saving vaccines and more than 100
diagnostic kits/tests.
In the evening session, another awareness cum
interaction on vector borne diseases (VBDs) of zoonotic nature
was held for medical fraternity & inaugurated by Dr. J.M. Kataria, Director, Central Avian Research
Institute, Izatnagar wherein more than 150 students from Rohilkhand Medical College and SRMSIMS, Bareilly, participated.
During this occasion, poster and photography
competition amongst IVRI students and exhibition-cum-quiz
competition for school/college students were conducted and
the winners were awarded. Besides, two radio talks by Dr R
S Rathore, Sr Scientist, VPH Division (for AIR, RampurKrishi Jagat Programme) and Dr Himani Dhanze, Scientist,
VPH Division (for AIR, Bareilly-Kisan Vani) were also
organized.
To mark the occasion, earlier, a Free Rabies
Vaccination Camp-cum-Animal Health Checkup was also
organized at Referral Veterinary Polyclinic, IVRI. On this
occasion, vaccination against rabies was done in 330 dogs
and necessary diagnostic services were provided for other
domestic animals. A large contingent of expert scientists and
students from Divisions of Surgery and Medicine and others
took active part in this camp.
As a part of WVD-2015, an Evening March Past led
by the Director, IVRI, Dr R.K. Singh and all Joint Director
was also organized from IVRI Campus to Sheel Hospital,
Rajendra Nagar on 24th April, 2015 to spread the message
of World Veterinary Day- 2015, where in a large number of
students, faculty and staff members took active part in the
procession.
