The International Women Associates (IWA) will hold its annual fund-raising Gala, showcasing
the amazing Thailand, on Friday, April 17, 2015 at the iconic Drake Hotel. We invite you to
help support IWA’s mission by making a contribution to the Gala.
Our Mission and Core: Founded in 1978, IWA is the leading Chicago-area organization that
connects women with diverse international backgrounds and significant global experience. Our 450
active members from over 60 countries put global understanding into practice through 130+
programs a year offering education, friendship and camaraderie. IWA promotes cross-cultural
understanding and advocates for universal human rights, especially for women and girls, as we link
diverse people and organizations.
Philanthropic and Community Service Work:
1) IWA does significant work with Swift School, a port-of-entry K-8 school in Chicago: IWA
members act as tutors, mentors and guest readers. IWA also funds professional test preparation and
learning workshops, sponsors prizes for student essays, and provides free books for students.
2) IWA members also present “Culture in a Suitcase”, a personalized cultural education session, in
several other Chicago public schools.
3) IWA has also established and awarded the Doe Thornburg Scholarship to support undergraduate
study abroad.
4) Since 1996, IWA has presented the Woman Extraordinaire Award annually to a woman who has
made outstanding contribution in her field and in the international arena.
