60TH ANNIVERSARY OF SUMMER CAMP – July, 2015
Have you ever thought about how long 60 years really is? In 1955, Jamaica Christian Mission was putting into
place a summer camp program that has seen hundreds, if not thousands, of young men and women learn
about Christ, develop a deeper relationship with Him, recommit and dedicate their lives to full time Christian
service. Many of these young men have become ministers and continue to work with the Christian
church/Churches of Christ on the island. Many of the young women have become Christian teachers,
Christian wives, Sunday school teachers or a Christian in some other professional job. As you can image, the
costs associated with camp have gone up significantly in the last 60 years………in 1955, a half gallon of milk cost
$0.43, a gallon of gas cost $0.23 and a loaf of bread cost $0.18. In 2015, these same items cost more than 10
times that price. The Board of Jamaica Christian Mission has launched CAMP 60. Sixty dollars will sponsor
one camper for one week of camp or help pay for the rising costs of camp….food, utilities, special trips to the
airport to pick up teams coming from America to serve in this special way. A separate letter and specially
marked envelope are enclosed with this newsletter with more information about CAMP 60.
