Concept Note:
India’s cultural and civilizational linkage with the Middle East can be traced back to the early years of recorded history.Even though it was trade that energized these relations; there were other dimensions too which coloured the social and ethnic atmosphere of both the regions. It led the Indian travellers to come to contact with the rich literary tradition of Arab folk. They curiously learned by heart poems concerning the different aspects of human life particularly that of religion and trade and shared them with fellow beings in their own regions. It was the advent of Islam and its arrival in the coastal areas of the state that caused to open new vistas of wisdom and spirituality. The Malabar people who converted to Islam took interest to learn Arabic in order to improve their understanding of the glorious verses of Quran. The classical educational system, popularly known as Dars, which systematically initiated in the region in the early years of 16th century, had helped students of Islamic theology to specialize in Arabic grammar and literature. It was common among them recite repeatedly the memorized poems so as to remember the grammatical nuances. They, consequently, tend to spell poems on things concerning the very nature of Mappila Muslim life out of their own emotions. Much surprisingly,while undergoing any sort of critical illness the learned men evencomposed poems abound with prophetic love, because they had strongly believed that it will cause to cure the disease they are in. Those poets, the majority of whom are the products of Dars, created unique culture of Indo‐Arabic poetry that seemed to be influencing even the Literature of the homeland throughout centuries. TirurangadiBapuMusliyar is regarded to be one of thepredominant of the Indo‐Arabic poets of that genre lived in the second half of the 20th century whose works appeared to have enriched the realm of Prophetic eulogy and that of holy Sufis and glorious martyrs and were filled with cultural, sociological and anthropological aspects ofMappila Muslim life meeting the challenges and aftermaths of modernization of religious consciousness. His works addressed the calamities affecting Muslim spiritual life and continuously inspired them to follow the footsteps manifested by the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his close disciples.
The proposed seminarorganized byO.K. Usthad Institute for Advanced Research in Islamic Sciences(IFARIS) in collaboration with Department of Arabic Language and Literature attempts to critically analyze the poetry and life of Bapu Musliyar from varieties of point of view, and therefore invites eminent academics, research scholars and students interested in Arabic Poetry and exploring its multiple dimensions in a secular and religiously harmonized country like India, to send their abstracts of the papers to be presented at the seminar.
The seminar language for presentation and discussion would be English and Arabic and the selected papers will be distributed among the participants and finally published by academic Journal releasing from the University of Calicut.Funding is available for participants to help supplement travel and accommodation expenses.Applicants needed to select any one of the sub‐themes listed below and they are free to choose any one similar to them.The abstracts should consist of 300 words and full paper between 6 to 10 pages to be sent by the following dates.

x The conference will take place in seminar hall, Calicut university, June 15, 2015
x Papers should be submitted to the seminar secretariat by the below indicated dates. Late arrivals will not be considered.
o Abstracts for the papers, not exceeding 250 words, should be submitted to the seminar secretariat not later than 20th of May, 2015. Accompanying the papers should be a CV of applicants no longer than half a page in length. Both abstract and CV should be in MS Word format.
o Last date for confirmation of shortlisted abstracts: 10th May 2015
o Last date of acceptanceof full paper : 3rd June 2015
